Anyone know how much I'd get to weigh in my 406?
I'm guessing I'd have to get the fecking thing there to weigh it in though?

I scrapped a couple of XM estates about two years ago and got over £200.00 each for them, and they collected them from us out in the sticks. Don't know what the scrap price is now, I would think the 406 is nearly as heavy as the XM.
I hope I don't have to scrap or sell for spares but it looks like a £400 to £450 bill to replace the dual mass clutch.
Car is 14 years old and not the prettiest but i love driving it, I've had the map done for towing and when working she's a bit of a beast for a 110... Brilliant on fuel.. Engine is sweet as a nut with a lot of 6 monthly services up to 2010 (I've done one every 10.000 since)
But It's done 240.000 miles but did I say the engines as sweet as nut and It's awesome on fuel?
I just don't know what to do and I'm scared of spending that money on something this age and mileage.......But I could spend twice as much on a pile of w*nk.

240000 miles is not a lot for these engines mine previous 406 I sold with 370000 on the clock its still going over 2 years later with another 60k on so it might be viable to do the clutch you will be guaranteed another 100k + easy
I would agree with john, mine is on 228k miles and still going well and I have a C5 also on nearly 200k both with original clutch and DMF, but of course towing isn't exactly going to make them last. C5s are so cheap now that if anything serious went wrong I would scrap it and get another, I used to do this with XMs when there were lots of them about, 406s though are a bit dearer although you do see some bargains on ebay but you really need to know a bit about them.
Could you get another decent reliable car, great engine and awesome on fuel, that can pull a caravan..?

So, it's £450 to repair a known good car, or double for a total unknown?? I know which I'd do. Repair your trusty steed.

My DMF is rattling quite bad, especially if the car is in too high a gear for the given speed a deep rattly sound comes from the gearbox area, its been like this for the past year but getting worse, i plan just to drive it until the car stops or the noise gets unbearable then tackle the job.
Its about £450 for a DMF but a solid conversion could be done, i don't know if its much cheaper, or if it affects drivability.

Shaking at low revs in a high gear when asking for power is also symptomatic of a bottom engine mount.
It could be the lower mount ill need to get under the car and have a look, there is a bit of a rattle on shutdown, and i think the drop links are worn out again.
That rattle in the video is there when the car is stationary, do the DMFs normally make noise when not moving?

I had a price for single mass conversion yesterday £268 plus labour.
While bleeding the clutch yesterday the lad helping me thought it a good idea to put pressure on the hard pedal... This resulted in the link bar thingy that attaches to the pedal snapping anyone know what it's called? or even have one you can post to me off a vehicle your breaking?
I'll get a pic of it once I can straighten my damn back.

Idiot... I think that would be the master clutch cylinder. A pain in the backside to change as there's no space to do it at all! Part itself is cheap though...
