Aunty Pollution makes a surprise visit

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Aunty Pollution makes a surprise visit

Post by Doggy »

While trickling along on my daily commute this morning, a surprise 'boing', MFD message and EML light appeared.
Soon followed by the realisation it's in 'limp mode' too. :?
Odd. I guess I'll find out what's caused it this evening, but it is a puzzle.
It was a different experience seeing a VW Polo SDI pulling away from me at the lights.

Thanks, guys. I feel much better now.

I hope it's not the MAP sensor, as I have already have an uprated replacement, to go with the new ecu map that the piggy bank won't run to at the moment. :(

The other hundred-odd horses were back in the traces for the trip home, but Aunty was still whinging quietly in the background. The car drove normally, so I judged diagnosis could wait till after the dogglets' evening constitutional. Two more trips, with no sign of Aunty letting up, so out with PP2k.....

Intermittent Fault: Bored. FFS Get a MOVE ON!

Well, not really. Intermittent over-boost which is a common DW12 complaint, especially with the '200' map which calls for boost levels up to 2400 mbar, only 100 mbar shy of the maximun boost warning level. Oddly, neither of mine have ever done it before, but it is very common and usually attributed to a minor vacuum leak. If it doesn't become a nuisance I'm not going to worry about it.

Always worth checking for a split pipe which won't show up on Planet but much easier to track down with a modified vac system.

Man in old Green Peugeot worries Audi drivers

Local man Eric Spaniels remains defiant this evening after being branded the "menace of the A14" for the third time this year. Our motoring correspondent spoke to company drivers at the well-known Cambridge Services to canvass their opinions; he spoke to Nigel Redframes a Sales and Marketing professional with an IT Company who said "oh yes that old chap in the Green Peugeot Estate, he's always tail-gating me when I drive my Audi A5 TDi sport S-Line Black Edition with DSG package and sport plus package and optional 19"wheels, I just want to get to work quickly and safely and this bloke tries to barge me out of the way" he added that he researched the Peugeot 405 performance figures one night and stated that "there's no way that car should be capable of keeping up with modern Leased Vehicles" and that it should be "checked over for signs of modification and safety standards".

The Department for Transport declined to comment stating that Mr Spaniels is currently under investigation.

Aunty was back again this morning. :frown:
This time I noted exactly what was going on at the time. 63/4 mph indicated, 1800 RPM, cc engaged, just after transition from very slight downhill to mild uphill. I'm guessing the cc has noted the drop in speed, responds with the digital equivalent of a heavy right foot, ergo more fuel and boost, turbo pressure overshoots a fraction and exceeds the max boost limit.
A few of our 2-door cousins have had similar experiences after fitting a 6-speed 'box.
The fix is a minor mod to the ecu map, (the custom one I'm still saving up for).

I may have to resort to driving it myself, at least in places.
