My Central Locking Problem

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

My Central Locking Problem

Post by stuart304 »

The problem on my 2001 406 I have is that when I try to lock the drivers door with the key it just instantly unlocks. It would appear that one of the other doors isn't closed. If I lock the car using the passenger door it works fine.
I wish I could use the button on the key fob but I haven't got the cars ID card. The dealers would charge me a fortune to sort this problem and I am on a very limited buget. Anyway back to my original problem. Is there anyone out there who could shed some light on my key problem.
Thank in advance for any help.

does the key you have, have the remote built into it?
if so if you open it up there will be a tiny piece of paper stuck to the circuit, give the dealer these numbers and they can get a remote, dont expect much change from £120 though, and it will take arround 4 weeks
your locking problem could be either a faulty BSi, lets hope not, or the drivers door lock, or the solenoid is faulty, the solenoid has a microswitch in it which detects when the door is being locked if this is isnt working then it will lock then unlock as it thinks the door is open, if its the lock, it will basically be not working for the same reason, just that the lock isnt engaging with the microswitch when the door is shut

I have this on my D8, and after replies from mjb we came to a conclusion that it could just be corrosion/build-up on the arms in the passenger door that allow the solonoid to lock the door. I am yet to take off my door card to look yet but will let you know what the result is when I get chance.

Mind you, saying that mine is 10 years old so I would expect this, but yours being a 2001 I wouldn't.
