Good luck with that Eric, one of my low pressure pipes has been cut and a bit replaced with reinforced hose aswell (assume the original rotted),I got a secondhand pipe but found it impossible to thread it round the engine bay,i reckon the pipe must go in the engine bay before anything else.I've cut the pipe in half with the intention of taking it to a Hydraulic workshop and getting the cut ends flared and joining it back together in situ with a suitable coupling but I couldn't thread the pipe through the front panel to the cooling loop so gave up and left it as is and it's been like it for 20k+ miles now with no problems other than it looking a bit unsightly. :(

Looks a tasty job, I reckon the only 'fix' is to use a very high quality hose and the best clips you can get. There are jubilee clips out there that do a much better job than the standard ones i.e. they clamp the hose uniformly around the circumference rather than 'pinch' in one place.

It looks like the only bit of the system with any significant pressure is between the pump and steering rack. AFAIK, that bit is intact and original.

I can well believe that it's difficult, if not impossible to replace some of the pipes, unless you're working on a bare shell. My main concern is that if, as seems likely, the cooling loop has been 'missed out', he's likley to find out the hard way while doing some city centre manoeuvring, most likely in the south of France.

If we can't sensibly revert to OE, I guess the best bet is hydraulic hose?

I assume the cooling loop is the pipe under the rad cowling?
Potentially any damage under there may explain the air con failure so may be worth a look.

Obviously stripping all that out is not tricky but one hell of a faff but if you're planning a coolant change or air con re-gas you'll want to do it sooner rather than later.
Apologies for stating the bleedin' obvious but I'm sure I'm not alone in experiencing those 'oh cock!' moments when working on stuff

You may be able to frig up a cooling loop somewhere more convenient maybe inside the wheel arch liner but with some professional* vents cut into it.

Eric, I have one of these cooling loops here at home....a few years ago I replaced about 3 or 4 in quick succession one summer.
I repaired the lower cooling loop with some strong hydraulic hose which I used as a substitute until the new kit arrived.
You are welcome to have it if it might be of any use to you.

ps, I'll take a picture of it and try to post it later.

Thanks for the offer, John, I may well take you up on that. :)
I'll have another look, see if I can tell exactly what's missing and get back to you.

Thanks welly & gumby for your ideas too. :)

I thought the cooling loop was missing on mine but it was only part of the supply pipework that had been bridged with reinforced hose and the loop was still there.

Just had a good nosey at mine while fitting the 'right' fuel filter, it looks like with the rad cowling out of the way it should go in fairly easily with a small manoeuvre round a PS pipe.

When I say easy that assumes you've dropped the coolant, dispelled any gas from the AC, removed both radiators and the intercooler, unplugged any wiring and removed the cowling with nothing snapping, rounding or disintegrating in your hands. :supafrisk:

Attacking with stealth from underneath may be easier but you'd probably need to lift it pretty high to give wiggle room?

If I remember rightly the hardest bit was going to be threading the pipework from the rad area through to the inner wing.

Thanks, guys. 8)

I can hardly wait.

In other news, I carried out phase 2 of my cunning plan to check the DPF from the pressure readings.
Long story short, there was no pressure indicated, so I'm thinking the sensor doesn't work. :frown:
Odder still, it didn't complain when I downloaded the original ecu file from my car. No A/P fault, EML, DPF w/l, nada. :?
The engine ecu gained a few more error messages, (Additive pump, additive accuracy, additive quantity) and the additive ecu had these plus the good old diesel cap signal. :?

I'm beginning to think someone has found a different 'final solution' to the FAP issue.

I think we'll just install some appropriate software and see what happens. :supafrisk:

Yes, but I put in a completely standard map and it still didn't complain. :?
If the canister's empty, it should complain because of not enough back pressure, mine did - but then it doesn't speak Welsh.

I think for the sake of a piece of mind, you should just open up the canister to see if the DPF is empty or not and then take appropriate action. Second guessing can work out expensive...
