We have had an untaxed car parked on the roadside here for about three or four months. A number of us have reported it over that time, as it is in the way. Response is a message on the answerphone, (why don't they call at a reasonable time?) saying that they have 'had a word' with the owner, and they are taking steps to sort it out.

There was one clamped up here the other day..
The owner just stripped a load of parts off it..lights grille etc and just left it..
It was a 09 reg..

It must cost them a fortune to get them unclamped or something.. :?

What a piss take, you know for sure that if YOUR tax ran out by just one day they'd clamp you in an instant.

I've seen a few clamped 'nice' cars like fairly new, my theory being the owner simply forgot to tax it. I never forgot and drove mine for 2 days at the start of Sept with no tax applied for no I didn't :supafrisk:

There must be a market for someone to recreate the tax disc, minus the bar-code etc, for you to put in the screen to remind you when the tax is nearly due...

I will happily have a tax disc in my screen, even if its not genuine but has the expiry date on it - maybe the DVLA could do the same, oh wait.....

I've 'gone naked' this morning and removed my Tax Disc because I definitely didn't forget to do this last week.

Out on the streetz, feeling rather exposed I watched other car's windscreens and found that almost every car still displayed a disc.

Please try to check this yourselves and report back to me, I wonder whether the message to motorists wasn't clear or whether most people really couldn't give a f*ck either way.

That's a point our Astra still displays its 30 SEPT 14 disc, that'll be extracted when I get home.

That's what I mean, I wonder if it's that old stigma about being a scumbag driving with no Tax so people keep the disc in to kinda prove they've paid?

*goes to do an experimentos

Back soon.

Just been to the Post Office, down 3 Terraced streets, and counted 84 cars....only 2 of them had no Tax Disc showing and I can probably assume they expired end of Sept and where the renewal stated you won't get a new tax Disc to display.

So my mini experiment kinda proves that either no-one cares or the system is unclear.

I'm still thinking about a suitable replacement, someting along the lines of, "Same extortionate cost, just nothing to show for it"

perhaps around on a Stella label?

Reassuringly expensive!

On t'way home last night I looked at the other cars around and noticed that 'keen' owners seemed to have no tax disc. By 'keen' I mean the sort that would have a couple of tasteful mods, or nice aftermarket rimz that kinda thing i.e. petrol heads (or is it diesel heads now?) so maybe it's something only motoring enthusiasts care about at the moment. Maybe it's something only I care about? should probably get out more.....

My tax disk holder is slowly peeling off the windscreen, and when the sun catches the edge of it i notice it, and think I should remove it. But it is too far over to reach while strapped in, and I have usually forgotten by the time I get where I'm going so it is still there.

What do you see as the advantage of removing it?

Just being a fuss pot really, we don't need to display it anymore so why bother? I think it's so deeply ingrained in us that we must display it that it doesn't seem right to remove it until we see everyone else has done the same, I'm finding it quite interesting but I am very strange like that.

I just noticed, the little sticker on our windscreens here isn't for any tax reasons, it actually shows the last time the car had an MoT
