Berlingo Query
A friend has set his heart on a Berlingo. He is hoping to get hold of a 1.9 non-turbo diesel. Anybody here know of any 'known' fault? Thank you.

The Berlingo has the same faults as the 406...Drop links and coil springs...they are pretty hard on glow plugs too.Rolebama wrote:A friend has set his heart on a Berlingo. He is hoping to get hold of a 1.9 non-turbo diesel. Anybody here know of any 'known' fault? Thank you.
There is also a problem I have fixed a few times...on the back of the engine there is a plastic housing that cracks and creates a water leak...easy, cheap fix if you catch it early...I've had a couple of head gasket problems from people ignoring a temperature rise from lack of coolant due to the cracked housing problem....otherwise they run forever.... I have a couple of customers with these at well over 150,000 miles with no known issues.

Re: Berlingo Query
Why a 'non-turbo' when the 1.9 turbo is so much better?

Re: Berlingo Query
I was going to type earlier that is a gutless slug without the turbo but i've never driven a turbo Berlingo.... My dads old 1.4 petrol was much better than the 1.9 non turbo i used to frequently drive.GingerMagic wrote:Why a 'non-turbo' when the 1.9 turbo is so much better?

Re: Berlingo Query
The non-turbo is okay, but it struggles up hills etc whereas the turbo version gives the car more 'spirit'..

Thank you Jasper for the input, as for the choice, I understand he has been told that the non-turbo is better of mpg, which is his main concern as he will soon be starting a job with a 60-mile round trip commute. Lives just off the M25 and will be travelling to just off the M3, so 99% will be motorway.
