Recommend me a Peugeot electrical specialist please

Hi all,
My hellish 406 experience continues. 1999 406 2.0hdi.

I am getting ABS and brake error warning lights on dash and display. I really need to hand this over to a specialist with the correct Peugeot knowledge and kit.

The car is in Preston, Lancashire. I guess anything within striking distance.



The above switches between abs and brake fault.

the easiest way 'might' be to ask someone on here who as got access too pp2000
to read it for you,'once you know which corner is at fault it might make things easier to repair,

Most diagnostic systems that garages have should be able to read the abs codes. Both abs and brake fault messages and lights come on if there is a problem with just the abs system

Thank you. There was an initial computer check (not a pp2000) showing an error with the osr abs sensor reading zero. That was changed to no avail.

There's some other weird things going g on like the radio giving a repeating, IRRITATING beep when on and the ns wing mirror folds every time ignition is turned on.

These two 406s have been absolutely the worst car owning experiences in my time driving. This is compounded by my lack of modern autoelectrical knowledge.

It's probably more common for the reluctor ring to fail than the sensor.

The radio beeping indicates it's not coded to the car's VIN. Takes about 2 mins to sort this with PP2000.

I just want plenty of "quality" time ripping this one up - mm by delicious mm. I will then post the remains to Toyota or Merc asking them to recycle it into one their incarnations.

I have had Jasper5 over....when my last low mileage XUD9 pooped it's cambelt. You are not wrong he is a nice guy.

OK, Jasper5 came over today and gave me a coup!e of readouts on the pp2000; errors were that the abs ECU was from a 605??!? Photos:







WTH is the wrong ECU all about??! Where is this ECU? Because I have two of the little black boxes (Bosch) attached to the abs pump and both give the same error. I know one is from a d8 1.9td where it never gave errors. But it does when used on this pile.

Any help appreciated.
If anyone can tell me where this Abs ECU is?
A local Peugeot specialist with a workshop/ electronics skill?
The proper part number for the ABS ECU and pump controller for this car?

Ithink the 'Abs ecu is combined with the abs pump.

not sure why it will be coming up with miss-match parts here, ive never worked with pp2000

as this Abs fault always been with the car since youve owned it or is it a new/ish fault?

'scuse me, but what the faark is that RPO? 40295 comes up as Thursday, 6 March 2087 Did Jasper put that in (doubt it) or is it something PP came up with on its own? It might explain a lot of those warnings there. Yep, the ABS ecu is on the ABS block itself, it seems to be complaining of being fitted to a 406, 605 or 406 coupe, umm...

Other than that, it seems to have produced the fault for you - rear r/h wheel sensor.

Edit: oh, I see what's happened, the full number is 08337 89 4 0295, it was the 08337 you wanted

Going off all the other fault's/ codes listed there,

id be guessing on a earth fault?
i might be wrong tho

Lozz , The error was present when I got the car. I was directed to a clearly broken sensor on the osr and advice all that was needed was the sensor to be replaced - it did not.

Earth Fault - anywhere in particular I should be looking at?

Was that the wheel sensor you replaced?

RPO DAM build code, it's the car's date of birth, it's rather important, electronically speaking. I'm not suggesting that it's causing all your problems but I suspect it'll be clouding the issue and quite possibly throwing up all the system dialogue warnings.
