Remote key won't work

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Remote key won't work

Post by bigknickers »

I have just bought a 53 plate hdi90 estate. The car locks with the key but not the buttons. I have tried to reset the key using the advice found on this forum but no good. It has had a new battery in the past, so I presume on replacement, the remote key stopped working (the battery in the key measures 3 volts). Do I have to take the key to the main dealer? or are there other routes?

If you've got the 4-character PIN code that comes with the car, anyone with PP2000 can get the car to 're-learn' the key(s).

If you don't have the PIN, do a Google search for Peugeot or PSA VIN to PIN - you may find someone that will do it for £5 - £10.
The dealer will charge you something like £25 to recover the PIN and £50 - £75 to sync the key(s).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks Doggy, I can get the code, am I right in thinking changing the car battery will make the keys forget themselves/ or are there other ways?

Changing the car battery without following the correct procedure viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13431
can indeed cause the problem - did it myself some years ago.
