Re: Recommend me a Peugeot electrical specialist please
That looks doable thanks Steve
I assume you are saying the RPO dam date is wrong on my car? I am sure we picked up a 4 or 5 digit number from the front a post/door shut?

Re: Recommend me a Peugeot electrical specialist please
I see...I will look at it over the week and have another pop.
Where would I get the proper part number for an abs ECU? I think getting a working replacement abs pump and ECU is a basic need, here.

Re: Recommend me a Peugeot electrical specialist please
Pug just list the whole thing, modulator, ecu, just one big lump. Are there any numbers on it? (Can't be bothered to go lift the covers off of mine
)
Might be worth a look - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=20821&p=207442&hili ... ch#p207337
Btw does the car have ESP? I'm not sure if it would make a difference but...

Surely I wouldn't have got access to the car with a wrong DAM?
The car does have ESP....at least the warning light is lit.

Re: Recommend me a Peugeot electrical specialist please
I've had to make up a DAM no. before now, seems to work.
Guess it would be interesting to see if you get different results with the right number. Notice that it picks up the VIN from the car, so you'd think it should use that rather than the DAM to determine which bits it should have. There's always the possibility the abs unit's been changed previously to whatever Pug / the main dealers were fitting at the time, (bit like Jasper's later model MFD).
If it works, just leave it / replace the sensor or reluctor ring and see what you have then.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Re: Recommend me a Peugeot electrical specialist please
I will take a photo of the door jamb sticker to show the DAM.
BOTH my regular mech and Jasper did mention the same concern that the ABS was being reported as from a coupe. There might be a chance that the wrong abs had been fitted in the past possibly after the last mot.
However, this doesn't explain why the same error popped up when the the abs controller (BOSCH bit fitted to pump) was swapped in from a 1997 1.9td. It still reported the presence of a COUPE ecu?

Unnecessary, I got it from the VIN and it's 08337chasesdragons wrote:I will take a photo of the door jamb sticker to show the DAM.
But I'll bet you never made one up that was 80 years out... I've no idea how much difference it makes, it does hugely in Sedre so I'd think there's a good reason for using it in PP. Or maybe not, who knows?Doggy wrote:I've had to make up a DAM no. before now, seems to work.
Maybe you needed to clear it before changing the ecu? If it's stored in the ecu then fair enough, but if it's stored in the BSI it'll just keep on reporting it until you drive the car and it clears.chasesdragons wrote: However, this doesn't explain why the same error popped up when the the abs controller (BOSCH bit fitted to pump) was swapped in from a 1997 1.9td. As Doggy says, I'd concentrate on investigating the fault, the ecu is meant to be configured (using PP perhaps?) but it's not like it's unreadable, that's a definite fault that I reckon you need to look at.

Re: Recommend me a Peugeot electrical specialist please
My interpretation of the ABS thing is that the your car is a "406 restyling" (i.e., a D9) but the pump detected by the computer is the pump that was fitted to a 406 (i.e., a D8) or a coupe, or a 607) -- which is consistent with what you say about it having a pump from a 1.9.
It may be that you can re-configure the car to tell it that it has the earlier ABS pump -- exhaustive search of the menus for that I'm afraid
The build code is needed for PP2k to work out which screens to show. The screens in PP2k are different on different cars, and indeed are different on the same model depending, I assume, on the build code. (On later cars it can work it all out from the VIN which it can pick up automatically.) Therefore it's possible that quite a few screens weren't correct for the car, and what PP2k found when it quizzed the ECUs wasn't what it was expecting.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Thank you again. That's done it, I need this going to a SPECIALIST. I am constantly amazed when I turn a light bulb on, that is the limits of my leccy skills.
If there is a reference for a pug electronics specialist within striking distance of Preston, Lancs, I would really appreciate it.

Re: Recommend me a Peugeot electrical specialist please
Ladies and Gentlemen, after little thought and no regrets, I have decided to call it a day in this 406 venture.
Can I just say it loud and clear, that it has only been made bearable this far, due to the kindness, knowledge and open sharing of both, by the members of this forum.
I have come into a sum of money that will allow me to buy another car PROVIDED I do not spend any getting this 406 abs error sorted, so...
406 is on sale on fleabay. You can observe in amusement.
Warmest Regards and thank you again
