Are these ramps suitable for the 406?

I think that is s super idea,

Wikipedia has a nice picture of someone compression testing a steel "drum" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_%28container%29 but I cant find any data (or rather got bored of looking)

It looks like a good idea, i wouldnt mind filling the barrels with sand, gravel or concrete just for the reassurance, but it beats lifiting a car up with a forklift and working under it, which is something which happens round here.

I could have done as suggested but as it is the drums and the timber are light enough to be moved out of the way should I need to park the car on the concrete for engine removal for instance. We are on quite a steep hill and level ground is a rare comodity, that did allow me to build the ramp of course.

I'm quite lucky that the FIL built his own house and as he was a tinkerer the garage has a pit in it.
For anything on my drive I use standard ramps with the aforementioned short wooden planks to stop the deceptively low nose catching.

I've had cars on ramps many times over the years but still get a twitchy ring when you have to give it some revs to get up the slope and hope you don't beach it on the top. I did hit the stop quite hard once and it flicked the ramp up against the sill, luckily as I came off the brakes it rolled back slightly and it levelled itself again

When I had the Suzuki I used to use 4 ramps at once (there was enough height under the sills to put a set), without helper ramps either. 4WD, low ratio and up you go, that could be a bit twitchy

Not sure what you're meant to do with it once it's up there though.....s'pose you could get under there and look up in awe at the exhaust or polish your brake lines......

I'm absolutely sure I wouldn't get underneath under any circumstances.

(Well, maybe if the drums were full of concrete).

Oh I like that, you can get all round it. Don't know that I would feel to safe under there at least the back end of mine is on concrete. My drive on is level as I filled in that part of the hill.

Thats something ive never had much success with is lifting a car up with a forklift, i used to do it with the old scrappers and its hard to lift a car up without denting the underside, it worked rather well on the suzuki with its hard chassis, but wouldnt do it on my 406 though.
