I have an estate, it has the usual problem of poor reception, I recently replaced it with an after market one which lasted about 6 months before that went wrong also!!! What are you clever lads replacing yours with?.........I'm not interested in keeping the satnav so that other cable fakro? I just leave hanging

Hmmm,
In my exec that I'm breaking ( its an ex-taxi ) the aerial base fed directly to the Sat-Nav, and there was a separate lead to the stereo from one of those 'extra' bases that taxis have, which had a perfect reception.
Doggy had troubles with his reception, but he stripped the 3 wires connected to his aerial base, cleaned the connectors and reassembled, which has improved things but still not perfect.
I guess the answer is to do a feed directly from the aerial to the stereo, remove the other 2 - but it will be a pig to chase it through the car ( roof-lining is the easiest way )
There is a belief that there is a signal booster somewhere but not found in my exec, or a GLX I stripped previously.....

Mine's pretty much spot on now - I also disconnected the coax lead going to the sat nav, since mine doesn't work anyway, but the biggest improvement came from improving the coax connection for the radio, located about 6" from the aerial base.GingerMagic wrote:

Re: replacing the boosted roof ariel
That's interesting, from researching old posts a year ago it seemed the ariel boost circuitry (mounted in the base of the antenna ) becomes knackered due to water ingress over the years and therefore don't work anymore. In the past I have replaced the ariel, but, I snapped all those nasty plastic clips that hold the roof lining trim that runs across the headlining ................don't want to repeat that mistake!!!

Me too - I guess its one of those trim bits that refuses to come off - then refuses to go back on again.....
The clips part numbers are 6997F0 & 6997F1 - just in case you need them...

Re: replacing the boosted roof ariel
I was thinking of replacing the ariel with one from say a VW, but I think they have an inline booster somewhere has anyone attempted this?
