central locking

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I had the same problem last year and again a few weeks ago. The central locking locked and then immediately unlocked. My problem was poor contacts on the door actuators, a 30 min job. The first thing you need to do is figure out which door is causing the problem and the way i done this was closing the doors from inside using the small button on the door cards. Then you will have to take off the door card and have a look in where the door locking mechanism is and you will see a small white box with a red connector onto it. Disconnect and clean contacts in-situ with a small nail file. That done the job for me and all working perfectly.

There is a thread on the Coupe club along the same lines.

If you have a late model 406 then the doors won't lock if the boot is open - there may be a trapped wire in the harness at the top of the boot.

To help eliminate the doors, sit inside the car and repeatedly open and shut each door to see if one of the mechanisms will finally work and lock the car, this should point to the faulty mech ( I hope )
