Peugeot 406 electrical problem

Good day all.

I hope you can assist me here. I am the proud owner of a Peugeot 406 EW10 vehicle.

Recently I started experiencing a problem whereby my vehicle would lose power intermittently and eventually die down and refuse to start.

So I would let the engine cool down a bit for say , 20-30 minutes then it would start and go.

I however observed that when outside temperatures are high say 25 degrees plus , this problem is more pronounced.

I did an experiment whereby I would start the vehicle drive and switch off and start again and drive etc and notice that after the third stop I couldn't get the car to start again until I let it cool down 20-30 minutes again.

A visit to a diagnostics centre revealed that the engine speed sensor was failing intermittently. I changed this but my problem has not been resolved.

Any suggestions on what the cause of this could be ? Thanks in advance for your advice

I had the exact same "cool down and it will start" symptoms on a 206, though it didn't die while running.... Turned out to be a faulty engine temperature sensor giving an erratic and very high reading and thus the ECU preventing the car from starting.

Can your diagnostics equipment show live sensor values?
