Temperature on my 406 1.9 td
I have noticed that my engine temp when car is warm cant get more than 78/80 c and it shud be 90. Although, the heater is awesome and can get very warm inside the car real fast and it doesnt go cold even if i leave the car for like 2-3 hours. Is this temperature normal? its winter here so around 5=9 degrec c. Also, i think im noticing abit poor fuel economy and have no idea how to fix it. Also I see a small white cloud on some starts in a day. Engine is running good, good performance. Changed air and fuel filter.

My 1.9 was like that.
One the motorway in the winter it would go cooler and I couldn't get warm enough air out of the blower to keep the windscreen clear
My HDi 90 always went straing up to 90 and stayed there.
I was worried about my 407 which only gets up to about 85. It turns out it's due to the temperature at which the thermostat opens.

If your heater is working well the chances are that the gauge is reading low probably due to a faulty sensor, you can check it by placing a thermometer on the head somewhere when its at normal running temperature.

I do have a habit of changing the thermostat on all cars that I acquire. They only cost £5 or less, and it's one less thing to worry about.
While I'm in there, I often change the coolant as well.

The 1'9s do suffer from being affected by ambient temperatures. It is a common complaint. Although on the positive side, they do not 'waste' fuel making heat for creature comfort, so do tend to give a better mpg.
