indicators staying on

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

indicators staying on

Post by keithg »

Hi Guys I hope this is a new topic (doubtful as you experts seem to have covered all problems on a 406) but i cant find it.

The other evening I was parked with hazard lights on, they ran for about 4/5 mins then all 4 stayed on? also occasionally if I indicate the side I'm indicating the lights also stay on, usually the next time i indicate all is well again.

I have just replaced the indicator switch with a (probably chinese) one could this be the problem? although it seems well made.

Also the reason for the replacement was there was a buzzing in the dash when the stalk returned to neutral after a turn, is it possible the fault is with the flasher unit?

Any help appreciated
Keith

Hi,

if there anything like the 306 stalks..id be guessing they are faulty.

ive had new ones that are iffy..

Have you still got the old ones ..to swap back to try?

Theres a layer of grease inside them..that short them out..

Don't hazard warning light switches isolate the stalk? Still, it's all change if it's got a BSI. I'd have headed straight for the relay but if if it has got a BSI the relay is part of it.

I gather electronically the D8/D9 thing is quite clear cut - before chassis number 80800000 it's a D8, after it's a D9-

Hi both thanks for the info i will suspect the stalk first then. On the D8/D9 designation given what you say my chassis number makes the car a D8, but I thought the D8 should have a 1.9 XUD engine ala the 405 or a 2.1HDi mine has a 1.9 HDi which I thought I had seen on this forum you call a D8.5? Ive had the car 3 years and still learning

regards

PSA phased out the 2.1td before the end of D8 production and replaced them with 2.0HDi 110s, so there were HDis produced at the same time as 1.9tds. 1999 2.1 tds are quite rare.

Hold on, 2.1HDi? 1.9HDi?? The 1.9s and 2.1s are XUD turbodiesels, 406 HDis only came in 2.0 and 2.2 flavours.
