My new 406 project....

I did this in the dark earlier....



Its an updated version of my Connects2 ( I put the old one in the wifes Picasso ) and it fits in quite nicely and works fine, you can just see the top of the SD card. The wires run under the centre console to the back of the stereo and I used my old exec switch panel to cut about.

I need to organise the folders better so it works better for me, but on the whole I definitely recommend this 'extra'

Its been a while since I put some pictures up, so here are the latest ones with the leather interior finally fitted, and 406 Coupe wheels with the winter tyres. I also fitted 2 extra roof bars as they were cheap on Gumtree....

Jobs done so far;
New servo, De-Fap, de-EGR, air doser bypass, K+N air filter, Connects2, white dials, Executives alloys, sun visors and leather interior, new front number plate, welton panel, new boot badge, replaced the vacuum hoses with silicon ones, replacement window motor and cleaned inside the fog lights.





To do;
IQ93, brakes overhaul, turbo clean, 7 seat conversion and a good service.

Its been a while since I've updated this thread - but generally the car has been trouble free.

About a month ago I transferred the 7 seat conversion from my old Exec, (which was also improved from donor vehicles.. ) but due to family commitments, time and generally having a boot load of shyte I hadn't got round to taking a picture. Well today I took the missus, our 2 boys, missus's friend and her son down to the Oceanarium and used the back 2 seats. Thought I best take a picture before I throw the shyte back into the boot

Now all I have to do is sort the over boost problem it developed about 3 weeks ago viewtopic.php?f=1&t=23184 and I can get the car remapped with a custom file - thanks to a bonus from work

I read with interest about your overboost problems, now bear with me
Whilst at work today I was browsing through a old copy of Car Mechanics & found a article on Peugeot 406 2.2 Hdi Diagnostics
by there resident expert Dean Birch.

Well to the point.
A very common problem on these is the boost pressure sensor, which is found at the front of the engine bay, close to the right side inner wing.
The pipe running downwards from this sensor (to the upper boost pipe connection at the intercooler) can fill up with oil.

Must be worth a look, remove the pipe from the car & drain / give a blast through with some WD40 or carb cleaner would be even better.

Best of luck bud DDD.

ps. if that fails it's got to be worth chucking a Turbo cleaning kit through it as 2.2 VVTurbos are well know for sludging up & sticking

Hi Paul.
I mustard mitt I didn't check the pipe innards, so thats a good idea, thanks - if it turns out to be that simple I will be both laughing while kicking myself in the bum.
I have a minivac on order so I can open/close the wastegate actuator without running out of puff, and I will be using a decent penetrating oil in both the EGR entrance into the turbo, and also through the inlet side. The car will be left for a couple of days anyway so it's a good time to let things soak while using the minivac from time to time to open the vanes.

Worst case, I will remove turbo from donor car and get it reconditioned to then put on my current car.

Another update...

I have had the car for about a year now - doesn't time fly.

The overboost is fixed ( blocked vacuum resistor ) and I have put the Coupe Hoggars with brand spanking new tyres on it.

Nothing else to report, the car is running fine, apart from the clutch which is just starting to slip, so I'm currently gathering new parts to get it sorted.

Time certainly does fly, (but then so does a glitch-free remapped 2.2).

Well, I haven't updated this for a bit so.....

The clutch has just started to slip under heavy load ( chasing the V6 coupes.. ) so over the last month or two I have bought a new clutch ( new old stock £60, thanks to Nutski for his link ) and a DMF which was £245 from Carparts for less.

I have also recently purchased a set of rear discs and pads, and an eBay pad fitting kit for the GLX, along with 2 new rear calipers, as per Mark W on the coupe clubs helpful link...

Why buy one, when you can have two!!

Rear discs and pads were £35, calipers were £75 and the fitting kit was a tenner.

I fitted the discs and pads, adjusted the handbrake ready for the MOT which is due this week. The calipers were fitted earlier today by the Sven the Pug hating mechanic ( he likes them really ) for £20, bargain.

MOT tomorrow, maybe get the clutch/DMF done later during the week, then....

Flash the ECU for the new IQ93 remap that is ready and waiting...

I wouldn't normally spend such a large amount of money on an old banger, but the car is a good one - and as I walk to work now I save £80 per month on fuel which can go towards the overdue maintenance..

I hope the car will be good now for a good few years.

The thing with 406's is it's a tried and tested formula! They're very reliable, quick, comfy, refined, good on fuel, cheap to repair, still modern looking cars but with very little of the expensive needless tech that often goes wrong with modern cars. It's got enough creature comforts like cruise, digital climate, electric seats etc to make it very usable, but none of the expensive gadgets like big colour touchscreen MFD's which cost a fortune when they go wrong and oftens means you cant use the HVAC at all until it's fixed! That's the reason why I've spent so much sorting mine, it gives such enjoyable worry free motoring that I simply have no need/desire to switch to something else at the moment.

And as yours is in such good nick, it ought to last you many years to come, as I hope mine does

Excellent, nice to see someone looking after a car to keep it running sweet. To be fair a well-sorted 406 is hard to compare or improve upon.
