I think the problem with post 2005-ish cars is that the rubber parts of the suspension (or any bushing/damper with rubber) just don't last. Rubber is not rubber like it used to be and quickly degrades causing excess movement etc.

My BIL showed me his Michelin Tyres which'd been on his car for 4 years (but very little miles) they were all showing signs of cracking, I was very surprised.

Older motors don't seem to suffer so many suspension problems, and they don't have DMF's and other complex bits.

Bailes I wouldn't give up the car now, you're only a step away from it being pretty much spot-on and unless you were buying brand new you could buy something else with similar issues around the corner.

I am always for a older car,no matter which type than new one.
Sure, you will get new car and sure, its lovely but parts for this new volvo are going to be more pricey than mondeo.

There is that other thing when you know your car after all these miles, you know what it needs, what every sound means etc.

Hate these post 2000 cars, filled with electronic which goes crazy the moment you splash water on the car.
Stick with the old,reliable one.

Parts for a Volvo C30 are actually cheaper than the Mondeo.
MK4 Mondeo parts are about the same as a 5 series.

Going to order new drop links tonight and return the old ones.

Seriously? I was actually thinking of looking at one of these when the '6 gives up?

Do any makes remain cheap for common wear and tear parts? (and also do a big estate or SUV for sensible money)

They are coming down in value, this time last year an unbranded recon turbo wad over £1200. Now you can get one for a touch under £700.
I paid £300 for two OEM wishbones.

Great car none the less! And considering I only paid £5400 when it was 3 years old made it a bit of a bargain but part prices can be eye watering!

In the interest of balance and fair reporting:

For my S40:

Volvo Fuel Pressure Sensor = £130.00
Ford FPS (same part) = £54.00

:?

I may be in need of an FPS at the moment due to certain 'failure to accelerate uniformly' issues :frown:

My fuel pressure sensor is over £300 as ford insist you must buy a new fuel rail too!
