Indicators have a life of their own

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Indicators have a life of their own

Post by Gus »

What the hell is going off

my indicators seem to have a life of their own - will try to explain this as simply as i can but dont think it is going to be easy.

when turning left the indicator functions normally ie clicks on and turns its self off when the steering wheel straightens the car.

turn right and the indicator on occasion will stay on and the stalk in the up position but mostly requires holding, when the steering wheel returns to the central position the left hand indicator comes on but the stalk is in the central position, to stop this you have to push the stalk down (as if turning lefft) and then back to the central position. :frown:

im confused:

Hate to say this but I have seen this before and it needed a new stalk, which unless you can find a used one on Ebay or something, isn't cheap!

I have a working spare indicator stalk if you need it. It's the one without the front fog light switch (not that mine works anyway.. grr)...

Let me know if you need it for the price of postage...

I've noticed mine doing something similar recently, if you turn sharp right then straighten up quickly, the stalk bounces past the central position and into the left position, so the left indicator comes on

That's exactly what its doing - bouncing past the central point and onto the indicator for the opposite direction.
