SPEEDO NOT WORKING

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

SPEEDO NOT WORKING

Post by acprinting »

I've recently proudly taken possesion of a 2002 Peugeot 406 Saloon and have a problem with the speedo not working![/i]
Its' previous owner told me of the problem and said that it wasn't too hard to fix. All I need to do now is to know how!
I've managed to remove the front dasboard trim and pull out the fascia unit, but now am at a loss of what to do - especially when I read that it may not be the actual dial, but a sensor near the gearbox!
Can anyone please help me as I am a novice at these sort of things?

Hello. The transponder is on the differential housing (lump on the back of the gearbox where the driveshafts come out). You could try reseating the connector first, if you're lucky it's just a fuzzy connection.

Nah, it's a gear on the back of the gearbox on the 406, that's why Doggy had to put one in on his 6 speed.

I beg to differ, gentlemen. The final drive speed sensor isn’t used for the speedo, but it is used by the BSI for the speed threshold for auto door locking, wiper mode, tickover speed etc. Also for the satnav.

Oh! I'm sure that many times people have had problems where their speedometer keeps dropping to zero, accompanied by a simultaneous drop in power, and we've told them to head straight for the transducer. Is this another semi-mux/full-mux change?
