A new(ish) Audi

Post by FarmerPug »

My dad changed his car, with my sister driving the 206 he didnt need to drive about in the kia anymore so got himself a different car, he used to have a few audis back in the day, the last being an 80, and went for a 2011 B8 A4 2.0 TDi. I tried to persuade him to get a citroen c6 but the audi is a more sensible choice.

Its the technik model which has sat nav and leather, aswell as the usual stuff new cars have, funny handbrake, funny key, stop start, bluetooth, etc. Cruicailly unlike the s line models it does not have rough suspension or the glare oncoming drivers spec led headlights. Heres a few pictures:

i couldnt find any magnetic devices embedded in the front bumper.

its a fiddly looking engine to work on, but everything seems reasonably accessable.

This might explain the tailgating, the scale of the speedometer, it stops at 180mph so the speed your doing points to a lower level than you would expect with a properly scaled speedometer, 30mph is not very far up at all.

To drive its very nice, suprisingly comfortable for a german car (although the normal suspension and tyres probably do that), very hushed inside, its the 140bhp its not blisteringly quick but more than acceptable, this version is supposed to be more economical and only has £30/yr tax. There isnt much bad about the car, the steering is a bit numb because its electric and the door trim beside the drivers door handle has some scratches, presumably because someones (perhaps a left handed persons) watch has scraped against it when opening the door, although the panel does pop out seperate from the door panel:

That's alright I think, not sure on the Aluminium dash inserts though.

£30 Tax? has it got a DPF then?

There was trouble with 2.0TDi's but that was back in 2005 I think so yours Dad's one should be well sorted.
Cars in my care:

Yup there is a cover but i pulled it off to check if there was an engine :D

It does have a dpf, aswell as many other things which potentially go wrong only time will tell.

My dads not a tailgating driver, it was interesting to see if the audi would change his driving style but no its remained the same.

In fact yesterday we got tailgated by another audi, a newish a6 with the w**ker spec led headlights.

Some comments about the audi after a couple of weeks of having it;
- the electric key is not an improvement over an ordinary key, its a bit of a balls, if you put your other keys onto the car key then they will scratch the dash
- the electric handbrake makes hill starts a doddle, it will activate when driving but when its pressed it engages all 4 wheels at the same time so no handbrake turns
- the stop start feature is a proper balls, its best left turned off all the time
- There is no dipstick, you have to go into the menus on the screen to check the oil level
