Dunno, it's the USA so local by-laws could say anything because they're nuts.

There could be a number of reasons. Water conservation laws, waste water regulations, that sort of thing.

And that's before you get into the insane homeowners association rules. Some of them even restrict you from parking older model vehicles in front of your house.

So it could go either way. I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

E: I just read the whole description. The law says that you can't wash or work on your vehicle in a public area, this would include parking lots and in the street. The officer is trying to make the guy's driveway a public area, since it's in public view. In that case, my living room is a public area since you can look inside if the curtains aren't drawn. In other words, it would never hold up in court.

Whats the point in having a driveway if you can't wash a car, sounds like a nice neighbour ringing the police over such an issue.

Weird, a private driveway is public because its on 'public view' maybe the state would like to pay to repair the driveway when it looks in poor condition to everyone else....

I'm upset that the officer didn't say "Vee-Hickle"

Nah, it's New York, so it's just a kah...

Yeah, private driveway, public view. Like if you were to march around your driveway with your John Thomas hanging out...

Anyway, like I said, it's a merry ka, do we care?

There is always someone...

We live down a unmade track, it has council signage but they don't touch it. It has drainage issues which (apparently) didn't used to be a problem when the track was bordered by fields. There is now a nice housing estate on the lower side.

In the winter the road develops puddles, people driving though these make the puddles deeper, it ends up a right mess until the residents group together and pay to smooth it over (we are about to do this as the local miserable MyHermes courier has decided it is too dangerous to drive down in his transit, I make it without issues in my classic mini, 406 and Renault Twingo... :?: )

Anyway, last year in order to try and reduce the volume in one of the potholes* and thus make it navigable without my Pug HydroLocking, I dug a 6 inch wide, 2 foot long gully though the bank separating the road from the housing estate. This did a good job of draining the largest of the *lakes. The next I knew a PCSO was at the door as some of the muddy water had drained onto a driveway of a resident in the estate and i was thus responsible for criminal damage (including digging the trench in land they incorrectly claimed was theirs). I had* to fill the trench back in.

When they came to check that the bank had been repaired the PCSO came accompanied by a police officer who asked "if i have a problem with PCSO's?" Turned out that what they were getting at is I had corrected myself when the wife had shouted downstairs "who is it", "it's the police... or rather one of those PCSO's". Sigh...

Oh noes :o

That'll teach you for trying to do some good for the community

If some old giffer goes arse over tit because you all left the road in a state you'd be hauled over the coals for it

Sounds to me like the police in your area are getting a little above themselves.

I am not sure about the authenticity of the video because of lack of markings on both the car and the 'officer'.
As to digging a ditch to drain a road onto another housing estate, I would have thought that would be a civil matter, not criminal. A charge of criminal damage could not be held as there was no intent. (Is that same person complaining to God because 'He' makes it rain, snow, hail, sleet etc?)

Can't be bothered to look at it again but there were some comments along the lines of the guy(s) with the car were annoying, loud pipes etc. (not sure if that was real or conjecture). Also there was some stuff at the start of the video that sounded like the two guys were getting their story straight, so I don't think the car was kosher to begin with.

Is PCSO what they call specials these days? Bloody hobby bobbies

The area around my Office is really nice* and it's not* where a lot of young offenders live (I make an effort to get along with them and they mostly seem nice lads, just bored with no work) anyway the local PCSO bowls about on a Mountain Bike to get through all the little cut-through's on the estate. Rumour has it that he actually stopped a Car and arrested the driver whilst still on his Mountain Bike 8)

PCSO's don't have the power of arrest so I assume it is a Special Constable you talk of.

Oh right, maybe he 'held' the suspect until the proper rozzers turned up, he did do this though. Or something.
