I love my car again

Post by Welly »

Well after an epic 400 mile jaunt this weekend I officially love the 406 again 8)

I had been struggling with it a bit recently due to a lot of silly faults but I realised at the weekend about how good the thing is at cruising the Motorways 8)

I had 5 on board, and the HDi cruised effortlessly at 85-90 and returned 48MPG.

There is a magic point in 5th gear at around 80 where your just sitting in the power band and the slightest touch of the pedal sends you upto 90MPH in an instant.

I feel the journey has been good for the old girl and she sounds sweet, feels alot quicker  and there was NO clutch slip

I thank yaw.

My Pug too has been feeling in top form.

Yesterday I put £35 of petrol in the tank along with 2 engine cleaner tablets.
I can't remember who make these tabs, but the effects are reported to be far better than Redex.
You put two tabs in on the first tank up, two on the next also. Then one every now and then thereafter.

And I can feel the difference already! She's cruising sweetly at 80 wit notably less effort than a few days previously. Shes also driving ultra quietly at 30 and 40 mph, again with less effort noticable.
The engine vibrations through the steering (the subtle ones that tell you whats happening up front) are a lot less and the needle on the fuel gauge has only moved slightly, despite doing 50 miles since putting the fuel in.

There is also a noticable power reserve!

So far, the tablet test is boding well.

Also.... the clutch slip has lessend, leading me to further believe in a past suggestion that it is simply oil contamination from my slightly leaking oil sump. So, will fix that in a jiffy and hope thats the end of it all.

thats like my old 306 1.9td, at arround 70mph you are sitting just as boost starts, if you boot it, in a huge cloud of black smoke :P you would be doing 90mph in no time

Yeah - Nothing beats a long drive in the 406...

Did a nice run up the coast to my mates beach house, did around 300km round trip and it really does soak up the kms!

Really made me appreciate why I bought one in the first place :)

Oh and mine has done 134,000 kms - pretty low mileage!
