As title really. Runs down for about ten seconds after ignition off too.
Had the car about eight months. Have done more tinkering than driving so far I'm pretty sure it was off when I bought it and I think it started playing up after I started playing with PP2000
Could I have messed with something or is it coincidental? Have been over PP2000 settings several times but they appear correct as far as I can tell. The fan relay is fine. It's a 2003 2.2HDi with the single blade (2 speed I think) fan. Only ever seems to run at high speed though. Temp gauge works OK in case that is relevant?
It doesn't bother me too much as I can leave it unplugged as necessary but having done a load of jobs would like to get this one done too. (And the water leak but that's another thread!)
Probably temperature sender switch. I had a similar issue with a D8 and replaced the switches. They should be easy enough to find where the water pipes come up into the engine.

Thanks for reply. I will investigate a little further. I didn't think it would be the sensor because I thought (rightly or wrongly) that if the temperature gauge was working correctly then the sensor must be too?
There are two sensors, one for the gauge and one for the ecu. I think the brown one is what you're after, the fan should run full tilt with it disconnected.

The OP has a late full-mux 2.2HDi, which I thought only has the one sensor?
Be good to know - my fan's fine but I get erratic behaviour from the gauge sometimes.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
I'm pretty sure it's 2 sensors on a full-mux HDi, 3 on a semi-,
Just firing up Sedre... Ah, the connector on the engine CTS is green. Air con sensor is black. Ah bollocks, the temperature gauge sender is also the green one, another theory bites the dust and we're back to square one. Arse.
It doesn't help the OP though. Now it's looking like it could be anything other than the sensor, pressostat, relay in the engine fuse panel, ecu or even the fan itself. Arse.
Just thinking out loud so to speak....would a naff internal temp sensor in the courtesy light fool the AC in to running flat out and therefore keeping the fan running?

2003 2.2 HDI SE
I have a confession to make however... I have been a dimwit.
I had the fan option in PP2000 set as 2 or 3 speed fan (because I thought it WAS a 2 speed fan). Anyway should have set it as 'controlled by chopper'.
Working properly straight away now. Off when engine started whether aircon on or not. Pulled the temp sensor plug and on it comes.
