Jobsworth of the year award?

I know it's only the first week of March, but I reckon this one will take a bit of beating.

One of my new grandsons, (who are precisely one week old today), was refused access to our GP today.
Went something like this:
"He's not registered with this practice, sorry"
"We tried to register him on Monday, remember"?
"You can't register him without a birth certificate, that's the rules"
"The earliest appointment we can get at the registrars is next Monday"
"Maybe you should have booked an appointment sooner"?
"You can't make an appointment until the child is born"
"That's not our fault"

So my daughter had to take him to the emergency treatment centre, fortunately it's not too serious probably just a cold, but both twins had a touch of jaundice and had to be kept in incubators with UV lights and only got home early Monday. You can understand her being cautious.

I thought this kind of crap died out in the last century. Apparently not.

It sounds unfair/wrong that, id complain..

I'dont rember any of my tribe being refused to go on adoctor's list before being registerd at the registry office.
and iirc it took up to 3 weeks or more.

I hate sh*t like that, they won't help a one week old Baby because of paperwork. I'd move everyone to a different doctors and get treated badly by them instead

There's a shortage of GP's so lots of folk just run down to A&E putting them under pressure treating day to day ailments. It won't improve until more money is spent on bigger and better treatment centers.

Our Doctor's Surgery 'release' appointments between 08:00 and 09:00 daily....what's that? the phone's engaged?.....and now all the appointments have gone?

I'm sure the baby will soon get better. What a start to life eh? born one day and pick up a cold the next welcome to England Reminds me of when our second child was born in 1998 we turned up at 18:00 and by 22:00 we were holding an R reg baby with a black roof (thickest hair you'd ever seen) they asked if we'd prefer to stay the night? DID WE HELL we were out of there like a flash and tucked up at home by 23:00

In my experience there is a certain kind of person in this world who is born for a particular job, unfortunately there are only so many countries with openings for dictatorial leaders so they bide their time waiting for an opening to come up as doctors receptionists.
I've lost count of the times I've taken one of my kids to the doctors, the GP has told me to come back in 2 weeks so you go to the desk and ask for an appointment and get told you have to ring on the day.
I always wonder if the GP actually knows he has Kim Yung Un sitting at the front desk!

My god, that's ridiculous, what is wrong with their brains? I'm with lozz, complain, also write to the local papers, MP, MEP even. And with Welly, time to change GP, the present ones seem more interested in getting the paperwork right that actually doing anything useful.

I can't help thinking what would happen if someone staggered in having a heart attack - "Could you come back next Tuesday?"

I hope your grandson is soon on the mend, I've no experience myself but that's a tiny human being there, surely much more important than any piece of paper.

Their badly designed computer system probably can't cope without a document thus enforcing rules on the doctors,not the other way round.

The worst thing is that these people follow the rules without the first clue as to why they are there.

The Health Visitors* give babies hearing tests now a few days after they are born, when my littlest was done he failed it in one ear, but was fine in the other. Bear in mind that at this point I'm a little sleep deprived which increases my hatred or self satisfied jobsworths

"Can you repeat the test" I ask "to confirm the result "
"Oh no sir we have to wait 5 days before trying again"
"Why?"
"Because that's the rules"
"What harm will it do"
"I have been told off before for repeating the test so I can't sorry"
"Why were you told off?"
"Because its the rules"
"Did you not ask why you can't repeat the test for another 5 days?"
"It's the rules, I can repeat the test for the good ear if you want?"
"Pfffft...If the rules said jump off a cliff would you do it?" [please, i think] "I suggest next time someone tells you not to do something you don't understand you ask why, that way you can claim to be knowledgeable and not just an automaton"
...

Suffice to say he passed fine when they deemed them selves able to test again 5 days later, so she probably bodged the first one, but my sister is profoundly deaf so it did plant a seed of worry for those 5 days.

The little dude should still be under the care of the midwife who should monitor stuff like that and send him back to Anti Natal for proper checks....Okay it's been nearly 15 years since i've had a newborn but has it really changed that much?
Or is Welsh health care that much better?

A bit like the Receptionist that used to work at our GPs. Gave me the runaround until I started to get angry, then decided she could not talk to me because I was angry. (Tried to make out it was my fault I am ill, therefore of low priority when it came to making an appointment.) I told her that come hell or high water, I was walking into the Surgery at 9am the following morning, appointment or not. She suddenly found she had an 'emergency' appointment time right then.

Thanks for those words of encouragement all - his, (B-reg), mum & (X-reg), dad took him to the walk-in health centre that's joined onto the GP surgery you can't get into and he's fine now.

I was just venting my spleen a little.

Despicable.

I needed bills and my passport to register at the doctor near where I live, and the doctor near work (turns out doctors don't work out of office hours) refused to register me because of my postcode.
You can see why people just turn up at A&E for anything and everything; it's the only way to access the NHS.

plus you come out with flu and other viruses the awaiting cattle have spewed and coughed out about the place.
