If you were on the A14 today going West I'm sorry

Post by Welly »

Went to a meeting this afternoon in that Huntingdon (and won the contract yay) on the way home about 15:30 I saw a lorry indicating to enter my lane of the dual carriageway for an overtake. Feeling laid back and pleased with my work shiz I merrily flashed the Lorry inviting him to go ahead.

Overtake my friend, we're all going somewhere important I thought as the Lorry moved into my lane. A 'wall' of lorry back end was now in front, then came the incline  a slight incline requesting a tiny squeeze of throttle......oh dear......inch by inch we dribbled past TWO lorries.....many cars were behind me in what looked like a train for the road. Time seemed to stand still.

Eventually the lorry nosed back into the lane 1 and to be fair he gave me a nice wave. Thing is what to do with all my unhappy customers behind? simple answer: f*cking gun it and run :cheesy: see ya losers

Hopefully they realised it wasn't really my fault. Won't they? :supafrisk:

You will be!

No, just kidding. I have yet to savour the joys of the A14 westbound from "that Huntingdon", (or even this Huntingdon). I do hope things have settled down.

Just in case, I've haz a new sticker:

My other car ISN'T a VOLVO
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I wasn't on the A14 today going west so I don't care :P

It's odd though, whenever I attempt to do something helpful or kind on the road I almost always end up feeling stupid and used and wondering why I bother. Sometimes I think it might be easier to just drive like a complete arsehole like (almost) everyone else here.

As an aside, I've pretty much got used to every other car coming around the bend with their wheels on my side of the road but I'm seeing a new trend now: drivers who just seem to take their foot off the gas and go into a daze for a few seconds. I was behind one today, I think it was a Vectra or something equally dull, in front of that was a Volvo (they get about) and coming back from Zagreb they did it 4 or 5 times. One moment they were right up the Volvo's derrière with their brake lights flashing on and off as they repeatedly approached within a few meters and backed off in an attempt to make the Volvo driver go faster/pull out of the way/drive off a bridge/into a tree, the next moment they slowed right down, no brake lights evident, so I had to slow down too. Then after a few moments they were racing up to pester the Volvo driver again. I couldn't see any reason for this behaviour, no straights coming up that they could have taken advantage of using their extra speed, no police about, no people threatening to use pedestrian crossings. Using a mobile phone? Pointlessly trying to find a radio station not playing mindless garbage? Trying to extract an especially large bogey from their left nostril? Loosing consciousness seems about the most likely. As I say, it's not the first time I have observed this particular behavioural aberration recently but it's definitely a new one.

I have noticed that happening a bit here lately. So far I have only seen Audi drivers doing it. I have no idea what it is all about as I was always in traffic queues when it has happened, so it's not like I could go any faster!
Also, I have noticed how few people seem to have the ability to cruise. They seem to have to be either foot down or foot off.
