Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
I'm sure if you were to remove the display, the radio won't work - it will still light up with sidelights as its a different supply ( I think )
There may be a crimped or broken wire between the display and the radio? Contact cleaner in the er, contacts?

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
So much for not having to take half the dashboard apart... I suppose I'll check those aswell this weekend.
In the meantime, I still wonder what "BH10", "AH25B" and "M841" are...

Ah. sorry, they're wire codes for the 2 positive feeds and 1 negative on the back of the radio (Peugeot don't do colour codes)

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
Both yield +12V. Not unexpected, since the radio can be turned on through the testing dialog on the PP2000. So far, so good.
I'll check the communication wires this weekend, but I've got my money on a corrupted BSI from here on...

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
I was thinking maybe the BSI can power it up (with zero functionality) without one or both lives. Ah well.
What about amplifier or cd changer? I know a wet cd changer can have some weird effects because it's mux. Thinking about it my estate had the lead in for the cd changer, it was just taped up in the boot. Now if this end was wet...
Clutching at straws perhaps, but I don't like to think about a fried BSI.
Speaking of which, did you know about battery disconnection/reconnection procedures when you did this?

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
Well, as I've previously stated I no longer have the cd changer as I've installed a connects2 USB interface. I have tried unplugging it to see if it has any effects, but no luck either.
Regarding the battery procedure, I learned about it after the radio went to sh*t. So it's possible I corrupted the software by simply disconnecting it. I just want to rule everything out before sending it off to the shop for a 150,- repair.

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
Ah sorry, it's the last post on the first page and I didn't see it, my bad
(I didn't even realise we'd got to page 2...)
I'm just reading it, the BSI obviously talks to the radio yes. I think we did everything else.
150 (what is that, Eurines I guess) would buy a fairly nice after-market stereo...

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
150 is an estimate, I saw companies in the UK offering "bsi virginizing" for about 140 quid.
And I like the stock look of the clarion, aftermarket radios have this ugly offset in the panel due to the stock tilted fitting. French electronics sure suck.
By the way, thanks for the quick and detailed help. It at least made sure I didn't forget anything.

Hi,JPW wrote:Hi all,
I've come here concerning a strange issue I've encountered after doing some maintainance on my 406 coupé. Since I'm a Dutchie, I've already asked my fellow owners on the nation forum, however we've run out of ideas.
It started around the holidays when my clutch went out. I figured I'd use my time off to replace it, so I did. It took me about five days to pull it off due to Christmas and all kinds of fun. During the process, the battery was disconnected because I didn't want any wires in the way. Upon completing the job I reconnected the battery and started the car. The new kit was working perfectly, but my radio however, was not. It didn't work at all anymore, and it hasn't ever since. It simply doesn't respond to anything at all.
So recently, I decided to try out a few things based on some suggestions of me and my fellow Dutchies. I'll list them below:
- Checked fuses and wires, nothing out of the ordinary.
- Tried a 'BSI soft reset'. Nothing.
- Used my PP2000 to read any errors. Both radio and dashboard produced "No communication with display possible". I figure the radio needs the connection to function properly.
- Using PP2000, reconfigured the radio. No luck.
- Using PP2000, used the 'testing' function. Radio suddenly turned on, but doesn't respond to any controls, neither on the unit itself, or steering wheel controls. Also, the display doesn't produce any info other than temperature, milage info and time. It seems to me that there's truly no connection between the two units.
- Switched displays with one I have laying around somewhere. Screen is perfectly fine, but nothing changes.
- Switched head units with my dad's 406 sedan (both clarion), tried testing with PP2000 again, no difference at all. Exact same behaviour.
So basically, I've ruled out any problems with fuses, power supply, the radio itself and the display. Like I said, me and my fellow coupé-owners have run out of ideas. Often, a couple of them lend some knowledge from here, so I thought I'd give it a go. Hopefully any of you can shed some light on my situation.
Many thanks in advance.
(- Tried a 'BSI soft reset'. Nothing.)>you mean the open window..stand on one leg procedure?
ihad a similar thing happen on a 207.after messing with a cd changer

Bsi reset..didn't work.
imanaged to sort it luckily ...by pulling the fuse (S/H) ileft it out for atleast 5 mins.
not sure if it will work on a 406 but it worked on the 207.

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
I don't think it will because he's tried a different radio in there.
I've just been off a-googling, plenty of on/off buttons failing (and one guy not realising it was an on/off button, radio must have been on fro the moment he bought it until he changed the battery) but no solutions for this problem. I wonder if it would be worth asking on BBA reman http://www.bba-reman.com/forums/Forum1.aspx
The usual problem after disconnecting the battery in an inappropriate manner seems to be loosing the remote synchronisation - someone on AS mentioned the BSI is storing it's settings, so this actually might tie-in with the remote problem if it's failing to store the current code - but there's nothing about the stereo dying.
Someone on AS also said they redid the battery disconnect/reconnect procedure again properly and it cured all their ills.

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
Just tried pulling the S/H plug. No difference aswell. I suppose I'll try the BBA forum.
Other than that, I suppose I'll try talking my trial-and-error through with a mechanic, then see what I left out and if he's able to fix it..
Thanks for everything though, it at least helped me narrow down my search.

Re: Radio malfunctioning after battery disconnect
Well, just reporting in after a while of trying several solutions.
I came across some french sites discussing problems with the BSM (fuse box under the bonnet). I decided to swap it with my dad's sedan BSM to see if it got me anywhere. Again, nothing positive came out of it.
I've also read up on errors/interference in the VAN-network, which seems to come to the wiring. So it seems that the only other thing that could be causing the malfunctions now would be the wiring, which I really don't feel like going into. Do any of you guys have any experience with solving wiring issues? Or should I just save up for a while and buy myself a 2002 V6 model?
