Have just dropped off my 406.
I have just returned home after dropping off my car at my mechanics, ready to be worked on first thing in the morning.
This is always a nervous time for me, as it seems that no matter what car I have and how much I look after it, it will always needs more work done to it than I expected.
It has gone in for a cambelt kit, new front discs and pads, and also new brake hoses. My mechanic has said it will be about £400 all in (which I thought was pretty good) but I just know something else will be found.
Oh well fingers crossed it will just be that. Will be collecting it tomorrow (hopefully) so will let you all know what the verdict (and the total) is!

Thats pretty reasonable - I would be looking at a similar figure just for the cambelt, tensioners and waterpump...thats exculding the brakes and the major service!!!
Why can't I be in the UK for cheap as chips Peugeots and Peugeot parts....ohhhhh I remember why, you have sh*t weather, crap beer and crap beaches

So do I. Yes its always a reassuring thought that you are on a fresh cambelt. Have to say, I've been very aware that I was due a cambelt change and have been driving very 'nicely' recently. Probably makes sod all difference though.Welton wrote:Hope it goes well benner. It's nice to know your driving on a new cambelt for sure.

Well I have just picked up my car and the following was done;
1. Full service
2. Replacement of cambelt, guide and tensioner
3. Replacement of water pump and refill of antifreeze
4. Replacement of front brake discs, pads and hoses
5. Replacement of the air con belt
Total cost? £498 inc vat. So although it was still more than the £400 I was originally quoted I am still pleased as it does seem like a fair price to me.
Mine you, that does mean that with a couple of other bits I have bought, the 406 has cost me £550 this month
Still, it was worth every penny.

The cost did include the cambelt though which would normaly account for anything up to £300.00 on most cars so Benner's just had a major, major service I suppose.TooT wrote:I would never spend that much on my 6.![]()
I love my old barge but im not gonner spend a penny on it unless it REALLY needs it.
Benner yours must really be 'one of the family'
The good thing for Benner now is that his car will just need basic fluid changes now for a couple of years, if he'd have left all those jobs alone his car could have deteriorated into what is known as a 'shitter'.
I'm not as bad as I used to be. I would always be straight down the garage to replace anything that was leaking/creaking/knocking etc but these days I tend to focus on the important repairs (like my bottom pulley last week) and I leave the rest until finances allow (which is usually never but hey).
Hey TooT, wait till you need the V6 cambelt changing
