2.2HDI SE For Sale

Post by gumby6371 »

Well it's now official as I take ownership of my new car at the weekend, an 08 Megane dci.
Test drove it last night and it's surprisingly good, clean, smooth and relatively well specced, nippy but not quick so no more dragging at the lights! Quite a come down in size from the 406 but big enough for me 99% of the time and I'll have to use the other halfs estate when it isn't.
£30 tax, uber frugal on diesel and pennies to insure.

No idea on what I want for the 406, I'll get some pics done when the weather allows but if you look back through my threads when I bought it it hasn't changes much except for replacing the aftermarket wheels with my coupe starfish ones and now has just under 160,000 on the clock.
Since I've had it I've changed the intercooler for a non leaky one, sorted the vac system, new top mounts and fitted a none floppy com2000 unit.
It came with front and rear strut braces, Brembo's, stainless exhaust, nico pipes and the 200 map (since toggled back to the 180 map for driveability in the wet), headlight protectors, non-smoker kit.
She gives me 37/38 round town with my 'enthusiastic' driving style, around 55 on a run but I don't do much of that, starts first time every time and handles well for a car its age.

It has it's fair share of dents, none of which added by me I hasten to point out.

It has creaky ARB bushes as the noise went away with the wet weather and I couldn't be bothered to get cold and wet to change them but I have OEM replacements waiting to go on. I have a shed full of spares from my time owning 406's, full set of lights, replacement wing, OEM bottom mount, loads of trim, spare airbag, old com2000 anything I could easily strip off the breaker I bought last year in fact.

ATM I'd prefer to sell it as a runner but if enough people want bits quickly enough and it earns me more then I'll do that, or even drive to me and swap bits over (TF3 post code).

I'll be swapping insurance over at the weekend but I can get it added to my mates trade policy for test drives and I'll leave the tax until its gone.

No silly offers please but as always I'm happy to help forum members.

Cheers

Gareth

Now I've picked myself up; scanning the ad I don't think you've mentioned Saloon or Estate?

As always a pic or two would be good, I'm kinda tempted myself so I can see what all the fuss is about with remapped 2.2's but her indoors will be very upset. I wonder if I can work out it'll pay* for itself* in better OMGMPG's..........

Body work isn't great, but the engine pulls like the proverbial train, I'd be happy with £500 to a good home to a forum member.

If there is enough interest in bits I'd be prepared to strip it for spares but I'm under orders from the good lady not to have it hanging round too long.

Bit manic today as I picked up the 406's replacement this morning and its been rushing about ever since. Managed a few pics of an embarrassingly dirty car in the rain on a now very cramped driveway. It will get a good clean and I'll take better pics but here she is.

Well Gumby,
If I was in the market for a very quick, tidy, nice spec, late model saloon, for only 500 sov's i'd pull ya arm off :cheesy:

Thanks DDD, if I sorted the Dink's which I've been meaning to do since I bought it then it would probably go for a grand. I have a replacement wing so I was going to source a door with the same paint code and fill and spray the rear quarter dink but time and commitments never allowed.
MoT due in a couple of months so the ARB bushes I bought need fitting and 2 front tyres, handbrake needs adjusting (shock..horror) but I fitted new cables last year so its just a case of tightening things back up.

If it doesn't go on here I'll advertise at £700 and see what happens.

Can you post up a few more pictures..... :cheesy:

Just kidding, there is a GLX 2.2Hdi on t'bay for £1195 which does look clean but yours has a better spec and is newer.

£700 for yours is a steal - Brembo's, leather, mint-sat-nav display, white dials etc, your motor looks great. Stick it up for £995

You might want to store it somewhere instead, for when the Renno breaks down..

...or bores you rigid.

It's a difficult call selling a remapped 2.2. (Remapped = smoky, undriveable, all-or-nothing performance plus the belief it's been thrashed in many people's minds). You might get on better putting it back to standard power.

I agree it's easily worth more than £500, but unfortunately it will only appeal to a few well-informed potential owners in its current state of tune.
