Other drivers pulling out on you but they don't care?

Post by Welly »

I have noticed a marked increase in other motorists blatantly pulling out on you and causing you to take evasive action but with no "sorry" gesture whatsoever :? you either seem to get stared at horribly or ignored.

Reminds me of a guy I worked with in the late 80's he always said if someone pulls out on you just hit them square-on don't even brake then there's no doubt what happened then :)

Have you seen the Russian crash videos on youtube, that's exactly what they do - if anyone gets in the way - hit em.

I came to the conclusion the MOD should consider painting its vehicles the same colour as mine and/or fitting similar badges since no one at junctions appears to be able to see me.

I think there was a study years ago that dark green cars seem to end up in many capers on the roads because they look too much like the colour of the scenery. Or something.

Pleasant journey home mate :cheesy:

Since driving a Green 26 tonne truck through the streets of Bournemouth ( student capital of the south.. ) I have learned to look very far ahead and anticipate pretty much everything.

Students staring at their ipoohs, old dears who fought in the war so you have* to stop for them, foreigners that look the wrong way before crossing the road, Audis, taxis, busy* school run Mums in their 4x4s...........

There will always be a knob pulling out in front of me at some point during the day, I get used to it and occasionally I will even brake a bit...

I'm fairly used to cars pulling out, it's people on the wrong side of the road that's still bothering me. Yesterday a woman in something German was waving to someone sitting outside the cafe and wandered almost completely onto my side of the road, forcing me to brake hard. All I got was a "which rock did you crawl out from under?" look

*wonders where they park the trains here when they're not using them*

The problem is, while I'm doing the emergency avoidance stuff I usually forget where the horn button is or even that I have any until it's all over

I always forget to 'toot' aswell which is a shame as the Volov has two air horns as standard and they are fooking loud  Mrs_Welly once said "why didn't you beep them" and I'm like well I was trying to save getting squished first

That's odd because my wife never says anything like that to me, that's probably because she thinks any close encounter we have on the road is actually my fault

I believe it was J Clarkson who commented that the Horn is the most useless of all features on a car. Only ever used to express frustration / swearing after an event, as you are too bust braking / swerving before to think to use it.

Indeed, in fact the use of the horn probably causes confusion more than anything as it means so many things.

We have a humpback bridge (single car width) near us and a friendly "pap" on approach is usually* used by drivers to save that awkward meet in the middle moment and this works well as a universal signal system. Then there's the "the lights have turned to green and you're still looking down at your phone" pap which is normally met with either panic gear selection and clutch control* or a stare so horrid it will keep you awake at night.
