After pulling the jimny apart post prang, it seems I have quite a bad case of tin worm which apparently is quite common on the older jimnys.
Any way rectification process is well under way.

If they're anything like the SJs the bodywork and floor will crumble away but the chassis will be perfect.

Did you take a tin opener to the floor pan? That looks like it might be mostly just surface rust?

Your probably not wrong on that count.

Just a screw driver unfortunately. I did have to disc the front and rear out but there was rotten patches all through the rear floor panel.

Erk! No, that aint surface rust. I'm beginning to suspect you're lucky it didn't fold up on you.

Fortunately the body is not really structural, good old fashioned ladder chassis and the ka slotted nicely under it with the tie down/lower bumper mounts that hang down off the chassis taking the brunt of the impact.

I guess "under" is better than "through" :supafrisk:

Getting up at 05:15 :( As the daytime temperatures head towards 40 degrees it's the only way I can do stuff in the garden without 1) getting cooked or 2) being eaten alive by mosquitoes. It's a bugger but it's got to be done.

After doing the garden stuff, I took twfe to work at 7:15 and then headed up to my gaff to have a ride on me bike. It's the first time since it was registered and it's really been pissing me off not being able to ride it, first I had a disgusting summer cold, then that mystery rash, then my back was giving me grief. Plus twife assumes that if I'm up early she can load me with extra tasks.

So I get up there and divest myself of shorts and sandals and put on jeans, socks, boots, my leather jacket and finally gloves. I'm already getting hot, not many people here bother with that sort of thing in this sort of weather but I'd rather get hot than loose my skin. I was even surprised when we took the bike for it's MOT* Goran was only wearing his crash hat and didn't bother doing up his jacket. Ok, crash hat good, but everything else, not. If you come off what's the first thing to touch the ground? Your hands, and if you're doing any sort of speed then they won't thank you for it. I'm a firm believer in ATGATT (all the gear, all the time) because it's usually when you're just doing a small journey that you think maybe you don't have to bother and that's generally when it all goes wrong.

Out on the road - hey, I remember this! 8) I didn't really plan a route or anything, I thought maybe just go somewhere I know well so there are no surprises. I was also aware that the fuel in it was probably getting a bit old by now, it wasn't down to reserve but I thought I'd stop at the gas station near Max and top it off.

So I pull into the gas station and up to a pump. I'm behind a police car that's parked by the shop but I'm not concerned because I'm full legal (finally!) I squeeze a whole 8 quid's worth into the tank and then I start walking towards the cashier. At this point the police car starts reversing, so I step aside but the driver calls me over. What does he want, maybe to compliment me on my bike? Or does he want to compliment me on the fact that I'm wearing all the safety gear when many wouldn't bother in this weather? No. He tells me to take my helmet off when I'm filling up and when I'm paying. What the f..? Does he think I'm going to ride out stealing 8 quid's worth of fuel in front of two armed coppers in a police car? Or that I will march into the office and produce a gun in front of two armed coppers in a police car? I guess he wouldn't have worried if I'd not been wearing one at all, ffs  I know in the UK we're supposed to take it off if we're going into a bank, which I can understand even if I'm not happy about it but a gas station?

So I spent the rest of the ride fuming. I rode down to Lućko and came back, a round trip of about 25 miles (I really need to do something about the speedometer, my eyes are getting so back I can hardly see the MPH let alone the tiny KMH). I took a camera with me to take a pic to prove I'd been out on the bike but in the end I just didn't feel like it.

The bike ran faultlessly btw.

I would feel the same in that situation, he had no idea of the amount of effort you've put into that bike and obvs couldn't care less, caring more about petty details in his sad shitty existence. I have to remind myself when I come across knobbers like that and it goes something like "w**ker" or "arsehole". They kinda take a little chink out of an otherwise decent day's activities.

Hopefully some pissed up local will projectile vomit on his uniform later today......

Don't forget this is a country where you can't drive without a top of some sort on, so I'm sure the cops here have a vast array of mindlessly stupid laws to call on if they want to f*ck with someone.

Meanwhile... I'm still feeding Teatime. He came back after a couple of days but hides under the car whenever I go out to feed him, so it's going to take some time before I'll be able to grab him again.

Unfortunately, he now seems to have a couple of friends (yes, he is a he before you ask, he has testicles and evveryfing):

Image

OMFG, some fecktard has dumped another couple of kittens on us  It started yesterday when I was woken up to the sound of a kitten mewing, erm, somewhere. I could hear it occasionally all day but I did my best to ignore it as I know what usually happens, I find a kitten, it hangs about, I cave in and feed it and it's indoors before you can say catshiteverywhere. That was until the evening, when I noticed the dogs acting strangely around the boiler house. Oh no. In I go, there it is cowering in the corner, tiny grey thing. So I put some water down, shut the door and left it. WhatamIgoingtodo? Then I went out to feed Teatime, only to find he had one too! Tiny little grey and white thing, stealing his food while he growls at it. So I put the grey one out with them.

Oh come on, we already have 5 cats, 6 including Teatime, do we really want 7 and 8? The thing to do would be to stop feeding them and hope they go away but I can't do that with Teatime about, and every time he comes there they are too. Maybe I should take them to the vet's but I know they already have a load and they'll probably end up being PTS (although they might have a better chance not being tabbies).

As i noticed, even with this stupid laws here,i think Croatia is still better country for driving than UK.
There are only a handfull of cameras, highways are free of cameras ,few of them installed on patrol cars but thats rare.
Penalties are lighter and if you pay at spot, you pay only 50% of it.
Correct me if i am wrong, but looking at neighboring states like Italy or Slovenia, there you would pay massive sums for even 10kmh above legal speed.

Even thought i generally dont agree with police actions on road,i think these thing with helmet is ok,we had quite a few thieves pulling the thing with helmest on gas stations.

Who knows what you pale Brits think when strong mediterran sun hits you,if you wear giant white socks with sandals at the beach, one could easily think robbing a gas station is nothing for you :P :P

Just kidding mates.

Steve,you need this thing,it works.
