407 stalks

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

407 stalks

Post by hammerman »

Hi all.It takes so long to get my posts approved on the 407 site(new member and all)And i need to pay to post and read the full forums  .
Still,i was wondering as some of you have 407`s.Are the cruise control and stereo stalks interchangable from a 406 onto a 407??
The difference being, the 407 has the speed limit extra position on the thumb wheel, and the stereo stalk has the phone function on the end of the stalk.
I`m pretty sure the sometimes lack of performance on the 407 is due to the speed limit and cruise control not always working from the stalk. The speed limit resetts itsself to 18 mph, then the car seems to not have the full 170 bhp.If i set the limit to max,157 mph,and switch off the speed limit/cruise on the thumbwheel to off,the car seems to fly along. So much so that its a good 10 mpg less than my 406 lol.
And the stereo wont search up on the stereo stalk.Dont want to strip it all out only to find they dont work.

No idea, sorry but I think it unlikely they would swap over. Do you have access to planet? (You can monitor all the button presses etc. collected by the Comm2000 to check if they're working consistently).

No-one seems to be getting really good mpg from the twin turbo 2.2 as far as I can see. :? My 2.2 406 is returning 50mpg+ consistently. From what I remember, the biggest single improvement was losing the egr.

Is the 407 2.2 the same as the 406,bar the twin turbos??I have a funny pig sqeeling noise, for want of a better word.Sometimes it does it all the while the engine is running, sometimes it does it when you unlock the car or put the key in the ignition, loke its farting!!!I think its coming from a part bolted to the front left(offside)of engine.Looks like its something to do with the fuel system.Looks like it has a tiny breather connected to it.I shall post a video later.

I don't know how people manage to get 50+ mpg on their cars to be honest. On my 407 I rarely get over 40mpg (check my Fuelly in the sig) but someone like rwb gets 47+? Maybe if you drive like a granny everywhere, you'll get 50+.. I never managed much over 40mpg on either of my 406's or the carpy Accord I had.

How you drive obviously has a big impact. When I first got the 407, I drove it like I stole it and barely got over 33mpg on it :P

I can live with the mpg lol.Its nowhere near as good as my remapped 110,but then the performance is quite adictive :cheesy: .And the 407 is 1835 kg`s,where as my 406 estate is around 1450 i think. No access to any software of scan tools etc.

Mechanically more or less the same, but you have an 1800 bar fuel system, (compared to 1350 on the 406) and piezo injectors capable of up to 9 injections / cycle, so you would think it has the potential to be more powerful and/or efficient.

Could the noise be coming from the vacuum system? - my bro's 110 did something similar.

Ahh yes I forgot new members need approval for the first ten posts or so on 407owners,another good one is peugeotforums a very busy forum and covers all model's. You will recognize a few names on both those.

ServiceBox gives the same part number (6242 Z6) for the radio stalk on both the 406 and 407.

For the cruise only stalk the part number is 6242 Z9 (listed for both 406 and 407), and 6242 Z8 for cruise+limit on the 407 only.

Therefore I'd say they're interchangeable.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

I have an electrical sounding squeel noise after the engine is turned off, probably from the ecu/battery area. Does this sound like what you mean?

Thanks rwb.I`ll maybe have a go at swapping them around.TBH i dont think i`ll get much for the 406.So anything i can change or use i am!!!!
My noise sounds more like a part of the fuel system.Maybe a breather or something.I will try to post a vid of it now.
