Speedometer problem

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Speedometer problem

Post by Gaff »

Hello Lads.

I have a PEUGEOT 406 (8B) - 1.8 16V (110Hk) from 1998

My problem is with the speedometer. It has some kind of electric default.

Sometimes when i drive, the indicator needel for both the km/h panel and the fuel gage and the RPM counter, just set it self and wont go anywhere.

When i then tap it with my fingers it sometimes go back to normel state, but not always.and when i tap it, the gages goes up and down, all of them. Just not the heater gage.
Sometimes the gages also works. But its behaving really weird.

Anyone now of that kind of problem, and a way to fix this.

Best regards

Hi
I had the same problem, I repaired it by correct locking plate behind the dashboard.
The locking plate is loose, so the wires do not have contact.
Remove it gently and bend it slightly inward, reinsert and tjek it by take a drive, If this does not solve the problem check the needel distance.
If it does not work, then there is something else wrong, just try and if it does work write back.
