Briggs & Stratton 3.75HP Sprint II, She's ALIVE! (pics)

Post by Welly »

Well, ''mowing season'' is upon us and last weekend I decided to dig out the old mower for a full service ready for another seasons hard work.

The winter had not been kind to her (because I was lazy and left her at the side of the house uncovered for 6 months in the rain/snow  )

Here's the tools I used and the new oil and plug needed here....
Image

First up, we gotta remove the 21'' blade for sharpening with my drill attachment flappy crappy dangerous disc thing

Image

Then we need to drain the old oil from the motor, unfortunately the Peugeot jack proved insufficient to gain access to the sump plug.....

Image

So, a temporary engine stand was fabricated for the job....

Image

Now, to access that sump. My Peugeot square sump key was a snug fit here...

Image

Whilst draining the oil ........ (I hope Mrs Welton doesn't miss her white face Towel)

Image

I got to work on the other service items.....

Here, I have removed the bespoke Pipercross filter element/induction kit for cleaning and then a treatment of dirt retention additive....

Image

Then we need to get the old spark plug out.....

Image

See the difference a season's hard mowing makes to the plug...
Image

Let's get that lovely new SAE30 oil in the motor....

Image

Just the job here, see how the lovely new red oil sits right on the FULL line 8) ......

Image

To finish the project we need to clean up her bodywork. I used some old AutoGlym Polish for the paintwork, and to finish I dressed the tyres for a really neat job....

Image

Nervous, I poured in 500mls of Tesco Super Unleaded, I primed the carb, and with the very first tug on the starter cord........SHE's ALIVE :cheesy: :cheesy: 8)

What a machine 8)

And here she is out in the urban terrain (engine idleing) ready for a grueling seasons extreme mowing by Welly....

Thanks for reading :)

:arrowu: hee hee..........

You should see my neighbours machine..... Smokey, rough sounding, tappety.....and he never dresses the tyres on his

Actually I am king of the street on the mower snobbery stakes because mine does a 530mm wide cut  I have stripped it down to basics over the years removing all the safety devices and throttle linkages and it's ubber reliable now 8)

You wanna see it though Blue, no burning oil smell, ticks over sweet and it even has an auto throttle compensator for those really tough bits of grass

Nevermind the lawnmower

I see two perfectly servicable bikes lying around on a cracking sunny day. Why weren't the offspring out and about on em? Don't tell me they were inside on the blooming computer or games console?!
nice lawn btw

Well it has adjustable ride height anyway, but I like it as low as possible because it suits the large wheels better.

The exhaust is pretty free flowing as standard and works well with the Pipercross induction kit so I will leave it as it is for now.

Actually, because I have removed the auto-cut off I have to shut it down manually. Here I can get some really cool back-fires on a hot day through the zorst if I 'play' with the cut off and let it dump unburnt Super into the hot zorst, makes a nice smell too
