New so-called tarmac

Boring fact: 'quiet' tarmac is actually two-layers of porous Ashphalt; the tyre noise and surface water soaks down to the layer below, if you look at the upper surface it's actually quite open/coarse, a bit like a sponge. Tyre noise is significantly reduced on these surfaces.

You would think that would cause problems when it freezes - maybe it doesn't in some bits of France?

This has been down for only 10 days:



See down at the bottom of the pic, it's bare, patchy, and loose stones everywhere, nice. Would be a handful for a motorcyclist I'd think.

I know in Russia in height of summers when it's +35C and over, tarmac begins to melt in the sun and becomes all wobbly and uneven.
