I saw a brand new Mini being delivered this morning, with 65 plates on and trade plates hanging underneath. However, as I was driving at the time, I couldn't really photograph it.

I remember watching Scrapheap Challenge (or something similar to it) where one of the contestants had unearthed a DAF with their Variomatic continuously variable transmission gearbox and planned on using it in one of their contraptions. I thought "bloody hell, that's really clever" and "why didn't this catch on?" and then I've just found out via Wikipedia that it is actually still in use in a lot of different production cars - including the Mini ONE that I saw this morning.

I forgot to say my first 65 plate spottage was so disappointingly ordinary that when I saw it I immediately tried to pretend I hadn't but you know what they say: what's been seen can't be unseen :(

It was a Vauxhall Insignia, being driven (as most Insignia's seem to be) aggressively/inpatient :frown:

Since then I've seen a BMW M1? which sounded quite nice at least.

A few Feehat 500's

Some Bini's

Some Dacia STEPWAY's they seem to be everywhere? must be cheap or something?

Yesterday I saw a chunky Vauxhall off* roader trendy thing which went sooo slowly over a speed hump it made me laugh.

Dacia is a joint venture between Nissan and Renault, I believe

Nissan seems to do the styling (whoops)

Renault seem to be responsible for engineering and build quality (uh oh)

Literally everything about the car not required for it to be roadworthy is an optional extra (including the radio), in the interests of making it as cheap as possible.

Why is it pretty much every 65 plate car* I see is white? White used to be the poor mans colour or police option but its making a bit of a comeback, mostly on a 4x4 or an Aldi A3....

White's been the colour of choice since about 2010 where have you been man?? :)

White took over from Silver. I think White is supposed to show off these striking* creases and slashes in the bodywork these moderns seem to have. Or something.

I had put the resurgence in white down to the financial crisis. Flat color so cheaper on the options list.

The internet says it's a few things;

Fashion because 'that's what people are having'.

The 'Apple Culture' :? something about the colour of devices.

Styling - where white makes the bold swoops and slashes of the bodywork stand out.

In other news I saw a BMW recently in a kinda 'Burnt Orange' colour and it looked really nice.

Bit late to this party but the 65 plate thing kinda slid by unnoticed for me. We went to Cardiff for the day on Sept 5th and parked next to a 65 plate nondescript eurobox. I commented to SWMBO that it was the first one I'd seen, only to then spot another 3 as we walked along that single row of parked cars. I therefore concluded that there were plenty of them out there but that I simply didn't care. Seen loads since but nothing of any note... :?

No that was called 'Meh Grey' :)

It's that dark moody grey, the colour of dark storm clouds and kinda pearlescent too, looks pretty cool to me.

I had a Chavalier once which was 'Smoke Blue' which was apt as the same shade was often seen exiting the tail pipe once the valve stem oil seals* had perished.

I happened to be in the big city (Plymouth) on the first of the month and saw two bright yellow double Decker buses on 65 plates. do they count?

Nothing since returning home (but I don't get out much...)
