Re: VW caught cheating US emissions tests
Doesn't peugeot use an adblue type system with their DPF's, the eolys fluid?

Re: VW caught cheating US emissions tests
Eolys reduces the temperature that the soot can be burned to improve regeneration.
Adblue gets injected into the exhaust to reduce NOx. It's witchcraft.
My Father's friends own a small construction company and we're looking to replace their 1992 Mercedes 7.5 tonner. When they went to purchase a new lorry they had a choice between Adblue or an EGR. The EGR was more expensive and being advertised as maintenance free. They went for the Adblue.
They ended up keeping their old lorry and it's still going strong now. They had a DPF and Adblue retrofitted onto it and it's more reliable than the newer truck!

Ad blue and eolys function differently. Eolys is added to the fuel and lowers the burning temp of the soot in the dpf. Ad blue is injected post dpf but prior to a cat and is for secondary emission control (nox etc) pug use a water cooled egr ( definitely on the dv6 and i would assume other engines) do a similar thing.FarmerPug wrote:Doesn't peugeot use an adblue type system with their DPF's, the eolys fluid?

There's a water jacket around the EGR feed on later 2.0's, I thought this was to speed up the arrival of hot water at the demisters but it could be the other way around. Or both even.

According to the maintenance manual I have for the dv6 its for cooling the egr for nox reduction purposes but I would assume (and also thought until I got the manual) that it also helps heat the coolant faster.steve_earwig wrote:There's a water jacket around the EGR feed on later 2.0's, I thought this was to speed up the arrival of hot water at the demisters but it could be the other way around. Well ok, then. One engine used by one manufacturer doesn't use a combined system. The new Eurocargo truck is the only Euro 6 in its category to adopt a single after-treatment device for exhaust gases

Oddly enough early 2.2 HDi's have a heat exchanger around the egr pipe, but later ones don't. Changed sometime between October 2002 & March 2003.

These addblue type systems: do they constantly inject into the eggsauce or just sometimes?

It's constant, relative to the volume of diesel injected.Welly wrote:These addblue type systems: do they constantly inject into the eggsauce or just sometimes?
So if you burn through a lot of diesel, you'll burn through the same relative (maybe 2-5%) amount of urea solution.

Mmm, so in effect you're 'burning' two fuels as you proceed - not very economical unless the piss stuff is cheap?

Disappointly it doesn't say if you can just piss in your tank if you run outEstimated usage for Passenger cars:
- Mid class diesel
-
(For example Opel Insignia or Peugeot 508):
-
1 llitre AdBlue for 1,000 km
- SUV/MPV class diesel
-
(for example Opel Zafira or VW touran):
-
1.5 litre AdBlue for 1,000 km

Re: VW caught cheating US emissions tests
So that's about £7.50 of pizz for every 620 miles...or just over 1pee per mile ONE PEE < ha ha see what I did etc...
So that's not much really, but can you top it up yourself? and doesn't the car sh*t itself if you run out? which sees you being recovered to the main agent ££££

Re: VW caught cheating US emissions tests
It's all in that pdf thing (well, obviously not all as it makes no mention about if you need to tell it you filled up or if it works it out for itself) it says it might go into limp home mode, or it might not start at all, and the owner could face fines (obv not 8 billion dullar's worth) But it won't do any damage

Re: VW caught cheating US emissions tests
I just reluctantly searched up on adblue systems (I'm not really interested tbh) and a quick read says that the NOx is converted into harmless Nitrogen, Water and Oxygen (and daisies?) so is quite a neat idea and certainly something VW owners can be smug about once the dust settles.....
Also saw something that the fluid freezes at -11deg C. Ideal* for Eastern Yourope or Canada for example.
