Replacing front anti roll bar bushes?

Post by fattail95 »

Evening all,

I have recently changed the rear anti roll bar bushes on my 406, and would now like to do the front ones too as they have a little play. The rear ones were nice and easy to access but the front's look like a pig of a job :? -- any tips/help/pointers would be greatly appreciated. :cheesy:

Best Regards
Ben

Been a while since I did mine, but I remember it being an easy job. If memory serves, you can reach 'em with the wheels off, and the bolt for the clamp is undone from underneath the subframe.

That said, I might have actually done mine with the subframe dropped as part of a bigger job, so take the above with a pinch of salt!

Thanks for the response.

They do look like a pig to get to with the subframe in place, I may drop it to allow for easier access. Only thing I'm worried about is it's never been dropped in the entirety of the cars life, I remember Frank saying something about the bolts snapping? :? My plan is to soak the sub frame bolts in PlusGas for the next couple months until I'm home from Uni, then once I'm back I'm hoping it should be easy to remove the bolts if need be.

Anyone else attempted the job?

Turns out you don't need to drop the subframe. Servicebox reckons 30 mins labour, following the instructions below:

What happened on my Coupé was one of the chassis captive nuts for the subframe bolts broke its welds and came loose. It needed the chassis cutting open, the nut re-welding, then the chassis welding back up and painting for protection.

Penetrating fluid to the bolts won't do anything cos they're upside down. You'd be best off drilling a small hole into the chassis above the bolts (i.e. drill horizontally from under the wheel arches), then using a straw to spray a load of penetrating fluid inside
