HDI 110 - How Often Change Fuel Filter ?

Post by trufflehunt »

Generally , when I buy cars, they're well into the years where servicing
has been of the cheapskate variety.
So I tend to be quite careful.

On the 406, I change the oil + filter at 6 - 8,000 miles (12000 in the book), and the air filter every other oil change.

I changed the fuel filter 23,000 miles ago, and can't seem to see mention, even after googling,
of how often it should be renewed ?

Two years or 20,000 miles, but I change mine every service.

If changing the air filter I would change the fuel filter at this time.

I change my oil and filter at 8000 miles, it was 5000 on the xud but the hdi is a much cleaner burning engine. I would concur with jasper on the fuel filter.

And yet you complain about your engine smoking!

Badly maintained vehicles will produce problems!

I must admit I haven't changed mine on the 406 in over 50k but it can cause problems if you don't. My last CX would suddenly come to a halt if you didn't change it it the appropriate mileage.

That's a rather general statement. If you convince or guarantee me that replacing my fuel filter will solve the smoke, I will do so directly! :cheesy:

Well, my point is, that if you fail to maintain your vehicle how can you expect to run it without problems?

I tend to change mine every 2nd or 3rd oil change.
I do 20k plus a year, mostly long runs and change the oil at 10k intervals.

The main reason I change mine every 6k is one there cheep & two & more importantly you can check for swarf in the
Filter / housing which is a early warning indicator of in tank pump failure :)

Google for "dw10ated+doc" (https://www.google.nl/?gws_rd=ssl#q=dw10ated+doc)

Third hit is: http://www.4x4brasil.com.br/forum/attac ... vprata.doc

On page 51:

"Fuel filter :
• Replacement intervals:Every 60 000 km.
• Bleeding:Every 20 000 km.
"

Just my 2 cents...

The PETROL filter in my Volvo is 10 years old and can't be replaced, who knows its condition as it's a lifetime filter.

I think Diesel filter changes every 20K is excessive, I'd probably say every 40K would seem about right.
