Right, presumably you mean when you short the thin control leads together the fan runs flat out, that's what it should do so there must be some sort of resistor network associated with the speed control, either that is faulty or the 12v supply to it is missing.

well,

there are four wires coming out of the control module, and two going in.

The two going in are power, black and red.

Going out, there is one black and one red beside each other, two skinny wires either side.

The pink skinny wire on the left of the black and red is the one with varying voltage when the rotary knob is turned.
The wire to the right of the black and red, not sure what that is for - temperature/ac ??

When I jump the input power supply to the control module directly to the black and red on the four wire out plug the fan runs flat out but cannot be turned off. (i.e by pass the control module and connect the two plugs to each other)

So there is 12volts and the fan works.

But I did notice that the control module connects to a square box on the outside of the motor casing and was wondering is there something there that is at fault and not the control module.

Does the fact that the control module has varying voltage coming out of it mean it is ok? and so it is something on the motor itself.

In about 30 years of running hydropnumatic Citroens I have never come across your type of blower, all my XM's had climate control hence the infinitely variable system.

If you are getting a variable voltage from the dashboard control unit I would think that it is OK which would leave me to believe that the motor module is at fault, I don't know about the one outside the motor as I have never seen one. I suspect that what you are doing is earthing the control voltage which is switching the motor full on.

Unless someone who has had experience of your system comes along I can only suggest that you try another motor assembly. I would be pretty certain that you can get one for less than the cost of the module. If you can't find one locally there are plenty of 406s being broken on ebay.
