I do have an early D9, but my auto electrical skills are weak, and no Haynes
TBH I don't think it will be easy access the wiring to the mirror to test will it? my mirror mounting is all part of the auto windscreen wiper sensor housing thing.
I can see some wiring going up into the headlining but that's all without stripping the liner out

In the back of the haynes you should have a load of wiring diagrams, each one being labelled as to where it is describing and a key to show what specific components are.406 express wrote:I have got a haynes manual for up to 2002 and I have a 2003 SE estate with a auto dipping mirror but I have not got a clue on electrics, if you give me some specific questions in idiots terms I will try and help you out!
You should be able to find a diagram that contains the rear view mirror and on it it should show what connection is connected to earth and what one is connected (via fuses etc) to the battery. Hopefully these wires will be labelled to show colours as well.

I have a 99-2002 saloon/estate Haynes manual, nothing in that which helps, I'm sure a coupe or later model book would be more informative.

Which Haynes manual do you have then? It would be wonderful if some kind person could check their mirror out and gave me the number ref on cable/colour sequence, with info which is earth,12v and reverse feed

Mines a D9 but as you say, I'm sure the D8 would be similar if not the same in that region. I have a D8 saloon/estate manual somewhere, I hadn't thought about checking that. There are no numbers printed on wires attached to the mirror, but then again, they are very thin and I would think that it would be difficult to print anything that small.
