Hi guys, looking for a bit of a heads up on which kit to buy here. Got a 2003 406 HDI 2.2 and a few weeks ago after a bit of a kangaroo hop the engine management light appeared. Although it didn't seem to be in limp mode it just never had any wellie. Didn't feel like the turbo was kicking in at all. All I had was the wee handheld which did show 4 codes but no details. Took a trip to the local garage who kindly checked and told me it was the MAF, saw there was a misting of oil and looking only one of the 3 sensors looked in tact. I have swapped this out for a cheap clone and reset the codes but they just came back and no difference in performance. I'm thinking it would be wise just to go ahead and get myself the pp2000 kit for this and for future use, just looking for advice before i buy. I can see el cheapo sets going for £60 quid on eBay, am I best avoiding the cheapest?

Hi, I bought a clone one about 4 years ago and its been trouble free. So far it has done everything I have asked it too ( 207s, 307s, 208s etc ) but it didn't work on a 2012 308 as my version was too old and I should have used Diagbox.
Some have bought cheap versions and had issues with the soldering inside the hardware, maybe its just luck of the draw.
You will also need an old laptop running Windows XP, or a newer laptop which is 32 bit and use a virtual drive ( no idea - I just read forums..!! ) but my old £30 eBay laptop is more than adequate.
As our cars are now quite old, we don't need the latest versions, but if you see one that is 'Rev C' this means it is a better one as it works on some 307s which not all PP2000 can..
Good luck, if you need any help setting it up then give us a shout.

On the basis of what I read on this forum about other members experiences of the cheap Chinese MAF's,

Definitely buy a genuine MAF, but as for PP2000 a clone will be fine.....

Brilliant info, thanks guys. Ill get the software ordered this evening and get some codes before going any further. A friend mentioned it is also worth cleaning out the egr valve periodically which could also cause these symptoms so I may tackle that while waiting on the kit.

Iain, most of us 2.2 HDi owners have done away with the egr.

Sorry guys, software arrived but I'm having issues installing it. Im 99% sure the disk is corrupt so in the mean time I'm still limping about.
Good point doggy, it's about time the whole system had a good old clean out so I might just use that guide while I'm there. Thats a couple of times iv found a misting of oil in the MAF

Thanks Jonso..... I have been working with the ebay seller but obviously their support is in China and when you wait 24 hours for a response which is a very basic question things have become tedious.
I ended up finding a download and managed to get diagbox up to v7.14 but now having lots of issues connecting. I may try that link you posted but if anyone has tips on connecting to a 2002 2.2 HDi exec estate i would be grateful, after a couple of weeks of frustration im nearing the end of my sanity!

Checking the MAF I find when plugged in the supply voltage drops to 3v and there is no sign of any other voltages. Unplugged i get 5v and again no other voltages, looks like the new MAF is the problem, would you agree?

Hi, it doesn't sound like the MAF ( a 2.2Hdi with MAF unplugged is like firing on 2 cylinders...
) but you can use PP2000 to check the MAF readings.
Test by ECU -> Engine/Gearbox -> Diesel -> 4HX Bosch EDC15C -> Parameters Measurements -> Parameters 1 ( I think ) and the bottom line is the MAF reading, it should be around 400-500 on tickover.
How about the MAP sensor ( the one on the intercooler ) as if this is duff then the car is also pants, you can unplug the connector and take the car for a drive to see if it is any different?
May I suggest you blank the EGR, this may give a fault ( airflow higher than expected ) but the car shouldn't go into limp mode.
Bypass the swirl valve ( I can go into more detail later if you can't find a how to ) which would eliminate the most common vacuum leak possibility.
If you are local to Bournemouth I can help you with the vacuum side of things....

Thanks Ginger, i popped out to grab the live data but it now looks like the box for pp2000 has now gone faulty. Flash of green light then go's out, drivers load but pp2000 wont see the box. Tried installing it on a new laptop running xp but again no connection! Not having much luck with this thing!

I'm going to order a new original MAF today but while i was messing with the vac hoses i found a tare in one. Fixed this with no change but I have a quick question regarding the control valves. On the bulkhead the far left valve has an open pipe where the other two are blanked off. Should this be blanked or hooked up to something? Picture is attached.
Its also worth mentioning i found the swirl valve was knocked off at the top, possibly me when i was checking vac hoses. It now attached and appears to be working okay but still a lack of power. I'm hoping the new MAF is the answer. I managed to get a screenshot of the turbo pressures before my device died which iv attached too. Hoping someone can tell me if the pressures are about right. The open pipe on the turbo electrovalve has me concerned...

Hi, sorry I have only just noticed your post.....
I apologise in advance if you know what all the EVs do, but if you don't...
Looking at the screen shot of PP2000 - it looks fine to me. The pressure readings look good and the turbo OCR is normally around 50%.
The vac picture, well - the one on the left with the grey plug is the turbo EV and the open pipe at the bottom would normally have a sponge filter on it the same as the other two EVs. I don't think it is too big a concern. The pipe nearest the bulkhead is vac supply to the EV and the pipe outlet with the grey dot is vacuum out of the EV - this goes for all 3 of them.
The EV with the blue plug is the EGR one - the pipe with the grey dot goes the the top of the rusty ufo shape you can just see behind the rocker cover - if you unplug it at the UFO and bung the open pipe with a screw then you have temporarily blanked the EGR, which is something to try.
The EV with the black plug is the air doser supply, this is split later in the pipe work to feed two butterfly valves in the rubbish leaky black 'Y' shaped effort that is on the inlet manifold - this can be eradicated if it leaks as it blows oil over the back of the starter motor...
The doser just opens and closes two inlet feeds depending on demand ( hot air from intercooler bypass behind the radiator, or cooler air from the intercooler )
There are many threads on the coupe forum regarding simplifying the vacuum system, removing the air-doser, getting rid of the EGR etc - easy to do and less to go wrong...!!

I apologise in advance if you know what all the EVs do, but if you don't...
