Immobiliser fault?

Immobiliser fault?
My silver 406 estate which I have just replaced and was giving to my son, suddenly wont start after 60,000 trouble free miles. I went to move it this evening and the engine turned over quite rapidly but it wouldn't start. There is a key showing on the instrument panel in a square box. We have tried both keys still no results - any suggestions?
Thanks, Peter.
Thanks, Peter.
Re: Immobiliser fault?
Has the battery been allowed to run flat?
You couid try A BSI reset..
Or pull and replace shunt fuse

Hi.
There is some instructions for the BSi reset in the knowledge base on the forum..
As for the Shunt fuse.. Its marked SH. Or it might appear as HS.
Its not an ordinary type fuse ..its solid not plastic.
None of the above may not work..but its worth a try.
The SH fuse will or should reboot the BSi.
Another thing to check or at least feel..if the drivers footwell carpet is wet or Damp.
If it is ignore the above Reboot And BSi reset and report back.

OK thanks for that. I checked for water but the carpet seems dry, I have had that problem, but the car is very damp inside not having been used for a while and I wondered if that could be the problem, I will leave the windows open while its not raining.

I know the pick up coil can sometimes give problems, would it be worth testing it for continuity?

...or making sure it's not been dislodged?
My daughter's 807 is kinda hit & miss with the immobiliser*, some times it works other times it doesn't. We now wait for the litany of MFD messages to appear in turn, ("Automatic Lighting On", etc), when it gets to the end of the sequence you either get a). the time & date or b). "Engine Immobilser Fault".
If you get a). it starts first time, if not remove key, re-insert, try again.
*includes optional pulse rate and respiratory sensors - the more upset you get, the less likely it is to start.

Re: Immobiliser fault?
That was next on my agenda, neither key works so if it is that the problem must be on the lock. I have tried three BSI resets to no avail, everything else electrical works perfectly.

Re: Immobiliser fault?
I don't think it is that because I have just tried starting it again and if you leave the key in and open the door it bleeps at you, if you take the key out it stops, so presumably it must recognise the key. Help!

Ithink you may need the help from someone with pp2000.
Or if you've got rac or similar I'd give them a call out..
Most of them seem to have some good diag stuff these days.

Re: Immobiliser fault?
I have actually got one but it doesn't work, I will have to try and get it fixed. This problem started when I removed the radio and fitted it in the other car, tried putting another one in but doesn't make any difference, didn't really think it would.

Re: Immobiliser fault?
Have u tried fitting ' the original radio back in?
Ithink what's happend here is the Bsi as gone into 'Hedgehog mode..
It happend to me on that nasty pug 207 ihad..when iwas messing with the radio trying to add a CD changer
Resolved by pulling SH/Hs fuse..

Re: Immobiliser fault?
The radio in it was an aftermarket Pioneer that I fitted sometime ago. I tried an original radio which came from the other car and it just bleeps because its no coded, still doesn't work though. I think its only the original radios that are connected to the BUS lines.
I think I might do as suggested and get the AA out tomorrow. Where is this fuse you refer to?
