weird, rare and Bouncy idle, 406 2.0 16v (RFR)

Post by Dahl88 »

Hi , im new.

I bought a 406 2.0 16v, RFR engine a couple of months ago, and im really happy for the car but..

Everysince i drove it, it seem to have an erratic idle, it swings around 50 +/- rpm up and down, and while not doing much for the driveability, it vibrates, i can feel it in my seat and its starting to annoy my like hell!!!! Some dude told me it smelled of gas when driving, behind me.. But that was before the MAPsensor change., the idle comes and go, and varies in how rough its idling.

I used a tank full of injector cleaner, - didnt help.
I changed the MAP sensor - Didnt help
I cleaned the stopmotor - didnt do sh*t either.
i gave it an spray cleaner through the induction (dont know the word in english)

WTF is wrong with this car? When i google it, i rarely find people with the problem , and when i do, nobody have answered their topics. I started to think it was the EGR but then again, after so much cleaning it shouldnt be the problem. , maybe a bad injector?

What do you think? lets solve this problem once and for all.

PS:
You can see a similar idle here, mine is a bit worse tho., but very similar else.

Is the stepper motor (end) still a nice do,e shape or has it worn down? If it's worn down then it's not doing a good enough job.

Might sound daft but check the heated rear window wiring at the back .The reason I m saying this is that my radiator fans kept coming on amongst other electrical problems and the problem was traced to the rear window heater wire ,it had melted a few wires

Same problem. Ok, maybe not a problem per se but slightly annoying :)

Get some carb cleaner and spray around the inlet manifold and all the vacuum hoses. It's likely you have a vacuum leak somewhere and the carb cleaner will cause the engine to bog down making diagnosis easier.
