Absent minded Pug owner in late MOT shocker

Post by Doggy »

I opened some post that had lain dormant for a time yesterday evening to discover my car tax won't renew at the end of March as may car doesn't have an MOT.
(It ran out on the 15th March, now I recall thinking beware the Ides of March - like Caesar, I'll remember that).
So I arrived bright and early at the garage next to where I work this morning - "Don't suppose you could squeeze in an MOT today by any chance"?
Well, OK. 8)

Phone call 1:-
It failed. :(
Rear brakes 'pulsating', (I believe it, at least one of my back discs has a shiny side and one to rival a deep pan pizza for surface irregularities).
'Please go ahead & fix it', I heard myself saying.

Phone call 2:-
It's going to need rear discs, pads and some pins etc., about £210 all in with the MOT, ready later today......

TBH I'm pretty happy with that. This is the 4th MOT they've done on the current dogmobile, it's sailed through them all bar needing a wiper blade last year.
And they only charge £30 for an MOT.

Fingers crossed that's it.

Shocking behaviour, you should be banned from driving for 8 months and made to retake your test and be forced to do 37 hours of unpaid work (changing brake shoes on Renner Clios) and made to apologise to all the Audis on the A14 eastbound for having 'got near to' their lovely machines with your horrid dirty un-MOT'd death trap.

That should do it.

That's a good price BTW :cheesy:

Apparently my back plates are in a sorry state.

Anyone know anybody who works in a shop capable of producing replica 406 brake backplates out of stainless steel ... ?

Would be a useful thing, going forwards.

I see what you did there :)

You're right though there's got to be a market for them, forgive me but what's the worst case scenario here with well-rotted BP's? all your handbrake stuff will have nothing to fix to? I've not really got my head around what the BP is for/does.

....or even rolling backwards.

AFAIK the back plates hold the brake shoes/adjusters/operating levers and keep the crud out. (Least that's the plan).
I dont think they're a simple, (flat) shape so you couldn't just laser cut/water jet them, you'd need a press, tools and so on.
Don't think this is going to fund anyone's retirement.
