Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!
Not sure if I wrote about this in the daily thread but:
The cambelt kit was replaced along with the Warty Pump (they said it had been leaking) so that added a further £80.00 + coolant.
I asked for all the old parts back and the pump had been weeping at some point but seemed ok to me, oh well at least it won't need doing again. One of the old tensioners sounded a bit rough and the good news is the noise is GONE, silence at last, well chuffed with the results, well I mean as silent as a modern dizzler engine can be but you know what I mean.

You did say, yes, not to worry. If it had been leaking you wouldn't have trusted it anyway, so it's best off replaced and shoved in the bin.

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!
Changing the original rear Michelin's on the C4: they were date stamped 2010 and were cracked to fook
and nearly on the wear limiters.
I already had one very new Kumho 'in stock' which was removed from the Volvo in 2012 and kept as a spare. Beans as though both cars share the same tyre size a cunning plan developed....
Got on the phone Saturday morning and conned the tyre emporium into fitting my supply-only tyre if I bought one shiny new Kumho off them. I got charged £85.00 for the new tyre and £5.00 to mount my spare all-in. I thought that was a spiffing deal; two* new tyres for £90.00 in the stupid size of 205/50 R17.
Biggest shock was the state of the Michelin's the rubber* was very cracked on the sidewalls and the treads I even called Welly_Junior out to look at them in a "what bad tyres look like" life lesson.
I know I didn't get on with Kumho's on the Volvo but they'll be good enough on the back of the C4 just getting dragged along.

So long as they don't slip about and end up being in the lead...
Sounds a good deal to me, although I'm sure you had to pay for the Kum-ho at one time. Interesting they're the same size as they're a deal of difference performance-wise. What about the speed rating?
Michelins definitely don't last, I wish I'd know this before I put a set on the Pug. Oh, and guess what make of tyre the new yoyo came with

+1 The last Michelins I got, (for the Omega in 2003), were ruinously expensive and bore the confidence-boosting pedigree, "Made in Uruguay".

Well, (very) slightly more reassuring, although, and I do realise that there are lots of interchangeable plates in the mould, it does have something of a letter from the Reader's Digest about it. MADE IN A TINY SHED IN MOZAMBIQUE

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!
Are tyres coming down in price? I just got a price for two 205/50R17 Pirelli P7's for the doom mobile and was quoted £116.00 each, not 'cheap' but I'm certain they were £130.00 4 years ago.
Oil prices?

My very quick check shows prices about the same as last year.....Welly wrote:Are tyres coming down in price? I just got a price for two 205/50R17 Pirelli P7's for the doom mobile and was quoted £116.00 each, not 'cheap' but I'm certain they were £130.00 4 years ago.

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!
Tanvic, I'll have to dig out the previous invoice as I have been known to make mistakes. It's just that after the weekend's Kumho episode which I thought were cheap it made me wonder but like I said I is an idiot memory either that or I'm getting more wealthy

Citroen C4 in: "returns 56 mpg shocker"
Had to travel 200 miles to that Lincolnshire on Saturday; roads pancake-flat and speeds of steady 50/60 mph, fairly windy with a few episodes of full acceleration (out of boredom).
Now I would've thought a 1.6HDi would return over 65 mpg under the correct stewardship?
The grey Volvo of doom can manage 39 mpg on the same route.

(Roughly 26 miles from yours to Stamford, 74 beyond that you should be about 30 miles offshore).
56 mpg is pretty respectable and diesel is the same price or fractionally cheaper than petrol currently, so you should feel rightly proud of yourself. (May even have hushed the DPF clock for a spell).
I hear in the news* that more adverse emissions publicity is likely to seriously impact the value of 2nd hand diesel cars....
