Horn

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Horn

 My 2001 406 Hdi today failed Mot due to the Horn not working. It had been intermittant before the test but worked as long as I pushed on the top centre of the steering wheel horn pad.

I did brief the garage but apparently they could not get it to function at all on the actual test. It worked when I picked the car up as long as I pressed in the right place. They have quoted me £170 + VAT presumably to replace the horn electronics (slip ring?).

There is obviously a contact/connection problem at the steering wheel end. Does anyone know a quick fix or have any ideas that will save me money? It is also slightly complicated due to the Steering Wheel Air Bag.

Just clean the contacts on the wires connected to the horns, they are located just infront of the ur front wheels above the plastic trim.

:D Well it worked, Took the horns off one by one, removed the electrical connection clip which revealed a bulk standard male/female connection. Used one of the wifes emery board nail thingy's to clean up and they worked!! :P
