Another update...

I've sort of added a Boost gauge and a Vacuum gauge so I can monitor whats going on in the engine bay while I'm driving ( still haven't found this ruddy fault... ) and there is enough pipe to monitor the turbo or swirl or the servo feeds :cheesy:

I've since refitted the vents and although it looks a bit Heath-Robinson it will do for now until I get around to tidying it up...

It seems the vacuum from the turbo solenoid to the turbo drops to 0 when I floor it ( effectively closing the vanes ) , but increases nicely if I throttle gently which opens the vanes as it should.. :?

My new Brembos are being refurbished by me ( not without issues I might add  ) so they are next on the list...

On a positive note - here is my best MPG figures so far, the picture was taken at Tewkesbury Morrisons after a 100 mile drive - not bad for a fettled 2.2Hdi :cheesy:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the vacuum to the turbo have to be dumped to increase the boost? - The more vacuum you have at the turbo, the lower the proportion of the exhaust gas that is directed to spin the turbine.
Having said that, I realise it does have to crank the vacuum back up once the boost pressure reaches the target value, (which I guess you can read of PP2k if someone else is driving).

Hmmmm, you've got me thinking now....
I think that the vanes are closed at rest, I.e. engine off. When the engine is on tickover then the gauge reads -200 which I guess means it's active or poised. The vacuum increases up to around -400 ish to fully withdraw the diaphragm and axle which I assumed was opening the vanes to prevent over boost..?
Maybe the vacuum is fine and my turbo is goosed, but I can hear the vanes click back into place when I use a hand held vacuum pump to withdraw the axle...

The saga continues.....
