Thanks guys
If I was to sell it my brother would be the new owner...but that won't happen just yet. I love this car...drives so much better than my 508, although the 508 goes like stink, the 406 is so smooth and comfy

Re: 406 HPi Estate... 2001, 2.0 Petrol.
Is it the HPI?
The guy who used to look after my 406 said the HPi is a "funny thing"
BTW:
If my 407 went bang and I needed a car tomorrow then without a second thought I'd be shopping for a 406.
On the other hand, the 407 is a very (very very) nice laid back place to sit that just epitomises the lazy French diesel idea, but frankly it's a harsh mistress.
On the 508: I think the sensible choice (thererfore not me ;) is the 2.0 163 unless you're going slushmatic but in that case then then you have to look at a Jag XF (same 2.2. and 3.0 HDi)

Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

I don't think we'll be celebrating how well one of today's 2016 cars is running in that year 2030..........

The HPi still runs great! The emissions were very low, despite my wife putting diesel in a couple of months back
I filled it with petrol for 2 fill ups and it was right as rain
Had some cutting out and spluttering, but it survived.
Fitted new exhaust rubbers last week when I serviced it as the exhaust knocked on start up....they were badly cracked.
I had to buy a new tyre last week...hit something in the road which turned out to be a 3 inch long bolt...didn't do the tyre any good!
Everything still works...one or two little scratches and dings have appeared, but nothing you don't get on any car.
Handbrake still works perfectly

My 508 is the 163....got lots of grunt plus great economy.
I have a customer who just bought one of those Jags...he's had it a month, but it's been in the garage more than he's driven it...keeps going into limp mode , but they can't find the fault...car was in garage last Monday when I serviced his daughter's Suzuki and it's still there!

The only thing stopping me looking for another one is having to revert to a 5-speed, (or spending probably twice as much to transplant this one).rwb wrote:If my 407 went bang and I needed a car tomorrow then without a second thought I'd be shopping for a 406.
Trying & failing to find an alternative I like.
407 2.2 HDi? Not sold on the looks, lacks an armrest I can use
508 2.0 HDi? Only available in poverty trim level as an estate, my research* indicates it can't match the 180-odd horses & 400+ Nm I have at the mo.

x-type 2.2 diesel estate? Too slow, several cwt of Ford scrap under the bonnet, doesn't handle as well as.......
E91 320d? Pricey, DMF problems, doesn't appeal as much as......
E91 330d? Even more pricey, so I know I'll never fork out for one.
