I never knew until today that all relatively modern-ish cars have an arrow beside the fuel pump symbol to show you which side the fuel filler cap is! I went straight out to check my gauge which I'd never even noticed before, this says my fuel cap is to my right side:
Google suggests the 406 has the pump 'handle' shown to the right of the pump symbol and possibly indicating which side the cap is but alas this seems to be unfounded and possibly pre-dates the time when motorists actually had a brain and could figure it out for themselves.....blah blah....blame the EU....blah blah...
If you've learnt something today you can blame me

I never knowed that neither.
406's don't, but I see that Mr Rees's conveyance has.
Sure it's not a Volvo thing, what with their target market being
experienced motorists who may be apt to forget things?

Come to think of it, my 67 Jaguar S type either didn't need one, or needed one on each side.
My 62 Capri would have been tricky too, since the fuel filler was at the back.

The Jag twin-tank thing; was that because the tank was split either side of the rear diff? and had a balance pipe in between them?

3442cc of XK awesomeness, to be exact 12-14 mpg around town, occasionally 25 mpg on a run, (but you could buy a tidy one for < £200).

No, it had a separate 7 gallon fuel tank on each side. Came with a L-R selector switch that swapped fuel pumps and gauge units.

Indeed lol! As does the wife's Fiesta, although hers points the other way
