Time for a change?
I have finally had to accept I can't run the current Dogmobile indefinitely, so I've been looking for an alternative......

Re: Time for a change?
A bit late now its ended, or did you buy it? Doesn't look bad for the money, electric seats and all that. Most that go
for auction prices are a pretty good buy.
I favour the 2.0. on economy grounds although my son has a coupe that's nearly as good on fuel as mine.

Re: Time for a change?
Doggy are you thinking that you need a lower mileage conveyance to 'buy' you some more 406 time?
What's the DM's mileage now?
What about the Gearbox project?
So many questions.
It's a bit bargainous that one with it's 'fault'........

Re: Time for a change?
DM = 183k & rising with a couple of trips to France planned so far......
My inner accountant wants me to sell the DM 'as is' + 12 months MOT, leave 'DM3' as Pug intended, wear it out in the 1180 days from now until I retire. (Yawn).
The hopeless optimist within me is considering a black levver interior and another 6-speeder.
I've not clapped eyes on it yet, plus my prospective SIL is in need of reliable transport - it might wind up replacing his 307 1.4 HDi powerhouse.

Re: Time for a change?
Collected yesterday. Initial impressions are positive, it looks fairly tidy inside & out. Drives well apart from a vibration around 70, (probably a tyre).
Averaged 47.9 mpg over 150 miles home at a satnav indicated 72/3. It's quieter than mine and handles nicely, stops well, good handbrake too.
Does seem slow, but not as bad as limp mode. Has the DPF W/L on all the time and is trying to regen, but that was expected. Reversing lights don't work, but no seriuos unexpected issues so far.
GTX is a bit more poverty spec than I realised - no sunroof or foldy mirrors, single CD head unit.
Looks like my daughter's other half will be keeping it

Re: Time for a change?
Had a quick butcher's with PP2k yesterday.
No ABS faults logged.
Everything else was DPF / additive related. It's still reading upstream & downstream cat temps and reporting the faults, so I conclude the FAP's still there and working.
Throttle position sensor showed a maximum of 87% until we adjusted the cable - not tried it myself since, but understand it's 'a lot more responsive'.
I might try finding one for myself next...

Re: Time for a change?
Probably.
Nonetheless, I have set up alerts for a potential 'DM3', 6-speed box and investigated clutch/flywheel prices:
ECP d/m flywheel £465; clutch £185; total with discount = £484
CP4L d/m flywheel £303; clutch £120; total with discount = £422
GSF only list asolid conversion kit, (out of stock) @ £533 with discount = £373
I might bide my time for a better offer.

Re: Time for a change?
It didn't take long for the wheels to fall off....
SIL stopped at Asda to pick up some lunch this morning and it wouldn't start when he came back out.
Unfortunately, he works 20-odd miles away so getting to work wasn't cheap.
I got it started for him tonight, just. Difficult to say what's amiss 50/50 battery or starter. If we get to Saturday, I'll swap batteries with him till we know.
Just wondering, does anyone have a good starter motor they're willing to part with?

Starter on our 2.2 HDi estate died last month, replaced with a new Bosch one from ECP. Relatively painless
Agreed though, they don't fail often.

Re: Time for a change?
Guess it all depends on the use the car's had i.e. lots and lots of starts or just normal use.
